The Birth of a Heavy-Duty Legend

The story of the Ford Ranger Super Duty starts with Ford listening—really listening—to the people who know trucks best. “Fleet managers told us about the heavy-duty medium pick-up space and how there just wasn’t anything they wanted,” said Todd Willing, Head of Ford Design at Ford Motor Company. This sparked a mission to create a truck that fills the gap between what’s out there and what hardworking customers truly need. Ford’s team went all in, meeting with over 50 companies and public services to live the lives of their customers and understand their unique challenges.

The result? A truck that’s the epitome of “Built Ford Tough.” Willing put it simply: “We wanted to deliver a truck that was tough, and the way it looked had to match that functionality.” From that vision came a vehicle that doesn’t just promise capability—it delivers it, straight from the factory.

A Design That Screams ‘Ultimate Tough’

From the moment you lay eyes on the Ford Ranger Super Duty, it’s clear this truck means business. Its taller stance, wider track, and massive 33-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires give it a commanding presence on any job site. The hood proudly displays a stamped ‘SUPER DUTY’ logo, while the chamfered edges and open-weave mesh grille ensure both strength and optimal airflow. As Max Wolff, head of design for Ford’s International Markets Group, puts it, “The design brief was ‘Ultimate Tough’—and we delivered.”

The truck’s muscular look isn’t just for show. Every element serves a purpose. The pumped guards, for instance, accommodate the increased track width and larger tires, while the squared-off over-fender design is unique to the Ranger Super Duty. Available in Single Cab Chassis, Super Cab Chassis, Double Cab Chassis, and Double Cab pick-up variants, this truck is versatile enough to meet the needs of farmers, builders, emergency services, and off-road enthusiasts alike.

Versatility for Every Job: From Farms to Firefighters

No two jobs are the same, and the Ford Ranger Super Duty is built to adapt to them all. Available in Single Cab Chassis, Super Cab Chassis, Double Cab Chassis, and Double Cab pick-up configurations, it’s ready for everything from farm work to emergency services to recreational off-roading. “There’s a range of Ranger Super Duty variants to suit customer needs,” Wolff noted.

For those who need a truck tailored to their trade, its upfitter-friendly design takes customization to the next level. “We made sure the truck is ready for everything from service bodies to slip-ons,” Wolff said. With a reinforced frame and easily accessible mounting points, outfitting the Ranger Super Duty for any job is seamless and straightforward.

A Cabin Built for Work: Functional and Ready

Step inside the new Ford Ranger Super Duty, and you’ll find a cabin designed with one goal in mind: making work easier. The ‘SUPER DUTY’ branding isn’t just on the outside—it’s embossed on the upper glovebox door, a constant reminder of the truck’s purpose. Every variant comes standard with a 12-inch infotainment screen and auxiliary switches in the overhead console for quick access to essential controls.

For workers who rely on technology, an optional Integrated Device Mounting system allows for secure mounting of devices up to 4 kilograms on the passenger side. This system is designed to avoid the airbag zone and reduce vibration, ensuring screens remain clear and usable without damaging the vehicle. “It prevents owners from having to make modifications,” Wolff explained.

And then there’s the snorkel—a unique feature developed in collaboration with Safari. This sealed system raises the air intake to roof level, delivering cooler, cleaner air to the engine, making it ideal for dusty or waterlogged environments.

Visibility and Durability: Built to Last

When you’re driving a truck with a 4500-kilogram Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM), visibility is critical. That’s why the Ford Ranger Super Duty features taller wing mirrors, ensuring clear sightlines even when the internal rear-view mirror is obstructed. These mirrors didn’t just pass basic tests—they endured Ford’s brutal door slam test, simulating 10 years of hard use in extreme temperatures. “We know Ranger Super Duty won’t always be treated with care,” said Dave Burn, Chief Program Engineer at Ford Australia. “So we slam the doors hard over and over to ensure it stands up.”

Advanced Technology for Safety and Ease

Safety and convenience are non-negotiable in a work truck, and the Ranger Super Duty delivers with a comprehensive suite of driver assistance features. Standard across all variants are:

  • Front and rear parking aids
  • A 360-degree camera
  • Blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage
  • Forward collision warning
  • Auto emergency braking
  • Reverse brake assist with cross-traffic alert

For cab chassis buyers, the innovative rear driver assistance technology bar brings these advanced systems to a segment that’s never had them before. “Driver assistance technology was critical,” Burn emphasized. “We want our customers to feel confident.”

Torture-Tested for Extreme Durability

Ford didn’t just design the Ford Ranger Super Duty to look tough—they proved it through relentless testing. “We torture test our trucks to earn the name Super Duty,” said Jim Baumbick, Vice President of Advanced Product Development at Ford. One extreme test involved packing 600 kilograms of mud under the truck to simulate harsh mine conditions—and it kept going. At Ford Australia’s You Yangs Proving Ground, autonomous driving robots ran 24/7 tests on the infamous Silver Creek track, a rocky, riverbed-like challenge originally designed for the F-Series Super Duty. Add in corrosion baths, towing dynos, shaker rigs, and real-world off-roading, and you’ve got a truck that’s truly built to endure.

Smarter Towing

With a maximum braked towing capacity of 4500 kilograms and an 8000-kilogram Gross Combined Mass, the Ranger Super Duty is a towing beast. But it’s not just about raw power—it’s about making towing easier. The re-calibrated integrated trailer brake controller and Pro-Trailer Backup Assist allow drivers to reverse with confidence by simply turning a dial. A yaw rate sensor speeds up setup and stores settings for up to 10 trailers. “It’s all about work,” Burn said.

New to the Ranger lineup, Smart Hitch helps balance trailer loads, while Onboard Scales use suspension sensors to estimate payload in real-time via the SYNC screen, ensuring you never overload.

Protection Where It Counts

The Ford Ranger Super Duty is built to go the distance, featuring a 130-litre long-range fuel tank for extended off-road missions. Thick steel shielding protects the tank, and high-strength bash plates guard the engine, front differential, transfer case, transmission, and fuel tank. “We know Ranger Super Duty will be pushed to the limits on the toughest terrain,” Burn said. “That’s why the underneath has high-strength protection.”

A Chassis That Carries More: Strength Redefined

While it shares dimensions with the standard Ranger, the Ranger Super Duty’s chassis is in a league of its own. Thicker framing, reinforced suspension mounts, box mount brackets, and tow bar mounts support its impressive 4500-kilogram GVM. Stronger driveshafts, a heavy-duty rear axle—the largest ever fitted to a production Ranger—and eight-stud wheel hubs with larger bolts ensure durability under heavy loads. “These enhancements are key to carrying and towing bigger loads,” Burn noted.

Power That Performs: A Proven Workhorse

Under the hood, the Ranger Super Duty is powered by Ford’s 3.0-litre turbo diesel V6, calibrated for heavy-duty emissions (EU6.2 compliant). Improved cooling ensures optimal performance under load and during sustained off-roading. For added convenience, drivers can delay and manually initiate diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration, a feature especially useful in high fire-risk areas. “It’s ready to work for years to come,” Burn said.

Conquering Extreme Terrain: Off-Road Capability Unleashed

With six selectable drive modes—Normal, Eco, Tow/Haul, Mud/Ruts, Sand, and Rock Crawl—the Ranger Super Duty adapts to any environment. Its advanced four-wheel drive system, with 4A (Automatic 4WD) as the default, maximizes traction on all surfaces. Front and rear locking differentials, a beefed-up low-range gearset, and high-mounted breathers ensure it can tackle the toughest terrain. “We’ve tested it where others would get stuck,” Burn said. “It performed flawlessly.”

Upfitter-Ready: Customization Made Easy

Customization is a breeze with the Ranger Super Duty’s upfitter-friendly design. Its reinforced frame and accessible mounting points make it easy to integrate aftermarket accessories, ensuring the truck is ready for any job from day one.

Coming Soon: Availability and Variants

The Ford Ranger Super Duty will arrive in Australia and New Zealand in 2026, with orders opening later this year. It will be available in Ranger Super Duty and XLT trims (the latter arriving mid-2026), with the XLT offering alloy wheels and touring upgrades for Double Cab models. More details for Thailand and other markets will be announced later.
