In an era where automotive innovation is driven by electrification and boundary-pushing design, Volvo Cars has once again raised the bar with the unveiling of the all-new, fully electric Volvo ES90. This premium vehicle defies conventional classification, blending the elegance of a sedan, the versatility of a fastback, and the commanding presence of an SUV. As Volvo’s sixth fully electric model, the ES90 joins the EX90, EM90, EX40, EC40, and EX30 in the brand’s ambitious journey toward full electrification, cementing its position as a leader in the premium electric vehicle (EV) market.

A Design That Commands Attention
From its confident stance to its meticulously crafted details, the ES90 exudes a distinctive presence. Its slightly raised ride height offers drivers a more authoritative view of the road, while the flowing roofline strikes a harmonious balance between aesthetic elegance and interior spaciousness. This design not only enhances the car’s visual appeal but also contributes to its exceptional aerodynamics, achieving a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.25—the lowest of any Volvo ever built. This efficiency translates directly into reduced energy consumption and an impressive driving range.
The front fascia proudly showcases Volvo’s iconic Thor’s Hammer headlight design, a modern evolution of the brand’s signature identity. At the rear, C-shaped LED lamps are complemented by additional LED elements in the rear window, creating a striking welcome and farewell light sequence that underscores the ES90’s premium character. Customers can personalize their ES90 with a choice of seven exterior colors—Aurora Silver, Crystal White, Denim Blue, Mulberry Red, Onyx Black, Sand Dune, and Vapour Grey—each offering a distinct personality, from understated sophistication to bold vibrancy. Four wheel options, ranging from 20 to 22 inches, further enhance customization, ensuring a tailored aesthetic to match individual tastes.
Practicality is equally prioritized. The large, wide tailgate hatch provides easy access to a 424-liter boot, which expands to 733 liters with the individually foldable rear seats down. A 22-liter frunk (front trunk) offers additional storage for charging cables, enhancing the ES90’s utility for family adventures or weekend getaways.

Inside the Cabin: Scandinavian Craftsmanship Meets Innovation
Step inside the ES90, and you’re greeted by a sanctuary of premium comfort and authentic materials, hallmarks of Volvo’s Scandinavian design philosophy. With a long 3.1-meter wheelbase, the cabin offers exceptional legroom for second-row passengers, making it a spacious and welcoming environment for adults and children alike. Six ambient light themes enhance sensory well-being, while a variety of upholstery options allow for further personalization.
A panoramic roof, standard across the range, provides up to 99.9 percent UV protection. Opt for the electrochromic version, and you can adjust the glass transparency at the touch of a button—perfect for reducing glare or boosting privacy on sun-drenched drives. Comfort is further elevated by a four-zone climate system featuring an advanced air purifier, certified as asthma- and allergy-friendly by Allergy Standards Limited (ASL). This system filters out 95 percent of PM 2.5 particulates and removes 99.9 percent of grass, tree, and pollen allergens, ensuring a clean and healthy cabin environment.
Volvo has also prioritized acoustic refinement, crafting one of its quietest cabins to date. This serene atmosphere enhances the enjoyment of the ES90’s audio offerings, which range up to a top-tier Bowers & Wilkins system with 25 high-fidelity speakers, including headrest and ceiling units. Featuring Dolby Atmos spatial audio, this setup delivers an immersive listening experience, with an exclusive mode that replicates the acoustics of London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios.
The ES90’s infotainment system is equally impressive, powered by the Snapdragon Cockpit Platform from Qualcomm Technologies and featuring Google built-in. Services like Google Maps, Google Assistant, and a suite of apps from Google Play are seamlessly integrated into the 5G-capable system. A 9-inch driver display and head-up display provide critical driving information, while a 14.5-inch center touchscreen controls navigation, entertainment, climate settings, and more. A new 3D view, supported by a 360-degree camera, simplifies parking in tight spaces.

Power and Performance: The Future of Electric Mobility
The ES90 marks a significant leap forward in Volvo’s electric vehicle technology. It’s the first model to feature 800-volt architecture, unlocking faster charging, improved efficiency, and a longer range than any electric Volvo before it. With a twin-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration and a 106 kWh battery, the ES90 boasts a WLTP range of up to 700 kilometers (740 km under China’s CLTC cycle). At 350 kW fast-charging stations, it can add 300 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes, though charging times may vary based on factors like temperature and battery condition.
Built on Volvo’s SPA2 architecture and the Superset tech stack—a unified hardware and software platform underpinning all future Volvo EVs—the ES90 is designed to evolve. Over-the-air updates ensure continuous improvements in performance and safety throughout its lifecycle. At its core is a dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin configuration, delivering an eightfold increase in computing power over previous generations. “This makes it the most powerful car we have ever created in terms of core computing capacity,” says Anders Bell, Volvo’s Chief Engineering and Technology Officer. “It allows us to further raise the bar on safety and overall performance through data, software, and AI.”
Safety: A Legacy Redefined
Safety remains the cornerstone of Volvo’s identity, and the ES90 continues this legacy with Safe Space Technology that protects occupants and those around the vehicle. Developed to meet the rigorous Volvo Cars Safety Standard—built on 55 years of real-world research and exceeding official testing requirements—the ES90 features a robust safety cage, advanced restraint systems, and optimized deformation zones.
Its active safety suite is powered by an extensive sensor array: five radars, seven cameras, twelve ultrasonic sensors, and a Luminar Technologies lidar. This combination enables vision beyond human capability, helping to prevent collisions and mitigate hazards. The driver understanding system, standard across the range, monitors attention levels and intervenes if focus wanes. Additional features include a door-opening alert to protect cyclists and pedestrians, and a full-cabin occupant sensing system capable of detecting subtle movements—like a baby’s breathing—to prevent anyone from being left behind.

A New Benchmark in Premium Electrification
“The Volvo ES90 combines our most advanced technologies with Scandinavian design and superior comfort, creating a true premium Volvo car designed to elevate your quality of life,” says CEO Jim Rowan. Positioned alongside the EX90 SUV as a flagship model, the ES90 reinforces Volvo’s leadership in software-defined vehicles powered by core computing.
Available for order now in 17 European markets—including Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and the UK—with additional regions to follow later in 2025 and 2026, the ES90 represents a bold step forward. It’s a vehicle that doesn’t just adapt to your life—it enhances it, striking a perfect balance between professional demands and personal passions.
In a record-breaking 2024, Volvo Car Group reported a core operating profit of SEK 27 billion, revenue of SEK 400.2 billion, and global sales of 763,389 vehicles. With the ES90, Volvo is not only building on this success but also redefining what a premium electric car can be. For those who refuse to compromise, the ES90 is in a class of its own.
