The new Dodge Charger comes with all-wheel drive for all models and offers different ways to power the car, including the 550-horsepower Dodge Charger SIXPACK H.O. and the 420-horsepower Dodge Charger SIXPACK S.O., which have special engines. The electric Charger models with two doors will start production in mid-2024, while the four-door electric models will begin production in early 2025. Gas-powered Charger models will also start production in early 2025. All these cars will be made at the Windsor Assembly Plant in Ontario.
Dodge’s announcement of electric Charger models and cars with cleaner engines is part of the Stellantis Dare Forward 2030 plan. This plan aims to reduce the company’s global carbon footprint by 50% by 2030 and make the transportation industry carbon neutral by 2038.
World’s First and Only Electric Muscle Car:
Dodge has introduced the world’s first fully electric muscle car with the all-new Dodge Charger. This car is part of the Dodge Brotherhood of Muscle and is the first to use the STLA Large platform, a flexible electric platform that can provide powerful performance. The Charger has an all-electric, all-wheel-drive system that produces V-8-like power without emitting any pollution. The system includes a high-voltage battery, a dual charge module, and electric drive modules in the front and rear.
The battery has a capacity of 100.5 kWh and can discharge up to 550 kW, designed to give maximum power during acceleration. The unique design of the battery cells provides stability and better performance in different driving conditions. The Charger has different performance levels, and you can upgrade its power with Direct Connection Stage kits. The 2024 Charger Daytona R/T has a standard Stage 1 kit, adding 40 horsepower, while the Daytona Scat Pack comes with a Stage 2 kit, giving an extra 80 horsepower, for a total of 670 horsepower.
The Charger Daytona models also have an advanced regenerative braking system, which turns the car’s kinetic energy into electricity during braking, increasing the overall driving range. Drivers can customize the regenerative braking level using paddle shifters for a personalized driving experience.
Next-gen Performance Dynamics:
The new Dodge Charger is built with muscle car features both inside and outside. It comes with lots of performance options, like PowerShot mode that gives an extra 40 horsepower for Charger Daytona models, and different driving modes such as Drag, Track, Drift, and Donut. The car has big 20-inch wheels with wide tires, the largest brake system ever on a Dodge, and a smart suspension system. It also has features like Line Lock, Launch Control, and all-wheel drive for all Charger models.
- PowerShot: This feature, found in Charger Daytona Scat Pack and R/T models, adds 40 horsepower for 15 seconds when activated by pushing the throttle.
- High-performance Brakes: Available with the Track Package option on Charger Daytona Scat Pack, this includes big 16-inch Brembo rotors and a powerful brake system for the best track performance and resistance to brake fading.
- Brake by Wire eBoost: This smart braking system uses a central module to control how the car slows down, combining regeneration and regular braking for the best braking force and pedal feel.
- Wheels/Tires: The Charger has the largest tire package ever used by Dodge, with 20-inch wheels and special Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires for better performance. The tire setup allows for independent tuning of the front and rear tires for maximum acceleration and stability.
- Suspension: The Charger has a front suspension that improves cornering with strong forged aluminum links, and an independent rear suspension designed for better performance, especially during high-speed turns.
- Dual-valve Semi-active Suspension: This optional feature on Charger Daytona Scat Pack with Track Package uses advanced technology for better handling and a smoother ride.
- Drive Modes: The Charger has different driving modes like Auto, Eco, Sport, Wet/Snow, and Track. Track mode is for the best performance on smooth, dry surfaces, while Drag Mode is designed for optimal launches on a dragstrip.
- Race Options: The Charger now has more choices for racing with new Donut and Drift Modes, which are only available in the Daytona Scat Pack. They’ve also brought back favorites like Launch Control and Line Lock, along with exclusive race-prep options.
- Donut Mode: This lets the car spin only the rear wheels and turn around one of the front wheels without the traction control system interfering.
- Drift Mode: Drivers can choose from three levels of slip angle, and the power is focused more on the rear wheels. The front dampers become softer, and the rear ones become stiffer, allowing for oversteering. The traction control system allows for different wheel speeds without causing any issues.
- Line Lock: This feature allows the driver to lock the front wheels, take away power from the front and make the rear tires spin. It’s useful for cleaning and warming up the tires before a race.
- Launch Control: This helps the car accelerate in a straight line from a complete stop, with five different levels of launch intensity.
- Race Prep: The new Charger introduces exclusive methods for getting the car ready for drag racing or track racing. For drag racing, it warms up the battery for optimal energy output. Track racing needs a longer energy drain, so it cools the battery for a colder start, giving more time for the battery to heat up during the race.
- Performance Pages: Like other recent Dodge performance cars, the Charger has Performance Pages that show important performance information like timers, gauges, g-force, and details about the propulsion system.
- Body Structure: The new Daytona models of the Charger have nearly perfect weight distribution between the front and rear, improving how the car handles and giving better control. The overall structure of the car is more rigid, which helps with performance and ride quality, reducing any shaking or vibrations in the cabin.
- Performance Pages: Like other recent Dodge performance cars, the Charger has Performance Pages that show important performance information like timers, gauges, g-force, and details about the propulsion system.
Purified Exterior Design:
The new Dodge Charger has a clean and strong design on the outside. It takes inspiration from classic muscle car lines but keeps things modern and functional. One special feature on the Charger Daytona models is the front R-Wing, which is inspired by the original Charger Daytona design. It not only looks cool but also lets air flow through, making the car more stable.
On the back of the Daytona models, there’s a black lower rear part with the Daytona and Fratzonic logos. The Charger has unique white LED lights in the front and “ring of fire” red LED lights in the back, with a lit Fratzog logo in the middle. The Dodge logo is subtly engraved in the headlights.
Both Charger Daytona Scat Pack and R/T models have special badges on the fenders. There are also nine new wheel options, each with the Fratzog logo in the center. The Charger has a widebody shape that looks strong, whether it’s a two-door coupe or a four-door sedan. You can also get a full-length glass roof to make the inside feel more open, and there’s a big rear hatch that adds to the overall open feel.
The Charger comes in eight cool colors like After Dark, Bludicrous, Destroyer Grey, Diamond Black, Peel Out, Redeye, Triple Nickel, and White Knuckle. Dodge is known for bold colors, and the Charger continues that tradition.
Interior With “Attitude”:
The new Dodge Charger has a stylish and driver-focused interior that matches its clean exterior design. The dashboard has a dynamic and layered look with large screens for important information, and it feels modern and technical. The design takes inspiration from the iconic 1968 Dodge Charger, making it lighter and more in line with a modern performance car.
Inside, there’s immersive Attitude Adjustment lighting with 64 colors that react to different events like opening the door. The lighting adds a sculptural feel to the interior, extending from the driver door to the instrument panel to the passenger door. The steering wheel is designed for performance, with a heated flat top and bottom, paddle shifters, and a PowerShot button for quick access in the Daytona Scat Pack and R/T models. The shifter and start/power button are conveniently placed on the center console, which also has a wireless phone charger.
The seats come in cloth and leatherette as standard, with options for premium materials like heated Black Nappa leather and Demonic Red Nappa leather. The Charger has a spacious interior with folding rear seats, providing the best cargo and rear cargo capacity in its category. The rear cargo area is significantly larger than the previous Charger, with an additional storage area in the front, called the “frunk.”
There are various optional packages to customize the Charger, including the Plus Group, Blacktop Package, Track Package, Carbon & Suede Package, and Sun & Sound Package. The Daytona Scat Pack and R/T models come with a standard nine-speaker Alpine stereo, while an optional premium 18-speaker Alpine system is available for all trims.
Immersive, One-touch User Experience:
The way you interact with the new Dodge Charger is more important than ever in shaping how it looks, drives, sounds, and feels. The cool visuals match the Dodge style, starting with the 10.25-inch (Daytona R/T) and 16-inch (Daytona Scat Pack) screens, which are designed to look like they’re floating, a first for Stellantis. You can choose from different layouts for the screens, and even customize what you see.
If you go for the optional augmented head-up display (HUD), you’ll get a big and improved view of important information. The 12.3-inch central touchscreen is standard, and it gives you easy access to the Uconnect 5 infotainment system, wireless CarPlay/Android Auto, and Dodge Connected Services.
There’s a cool One-button Press Experience that lets you instantly change how the Charger feels to drive. Just push a button on the steering wheel, and the car’s personality and the info on the screens will match the chosen Drive Mode.
The interior lighting, called Attitude Adjustment, comes with the Plus Package and uses new animation technology. It changes based on different driving events, like opening the door or revving the engine. For Charger Daytona models, there’s a special Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust system that creates a unique and intense sound, matching the performance of Hellcat engines. You can even choose a stealth sound mode for a quieter ride. The sounds help you get feedback, especially on the track or at high speeds, making the driving experience more immersive.
The Uconnect 5 system on the touchscreen is customizable and easy to use. You can access various features like media, navigation, and even Amazon Alexa. For all-electric models, there’s a feature that tells you if you need to charge to reach your destination and shows potential charging stations along the way. The Uconnect 5 system also has Electric vehicle pages that share information on power flow, battery status, and charge levels. You can also access Performance Pages for details on key performance metrics.
The new Dodge Digital Key lets you access your Charger using your smartphone, and it comes with an NFC smart card for times when you don’t have your phone. The free Dodge app lets you monitor charge levels, set charge schedules, and find charging stations remotely.
Drive Experience Recorder:
With the Track Package, the all-new Dodge Charger Daytona comes with a Drive Experience Recorder (DxR). This tool helps drivers capture and analyze their day at the track. It records events like drag races and circuit races and syncs audio, video, and vehicle data. The system has a dashcam feature with a high-quality camera and a USB port for storage. Users can start and stop recording manually or set triggers. After the event, drivers can analyze the recordings in the car or with external tools.
All-new Dodge Charger: Muscle-car Range and Rejuvenation:
The Dodge Charger Daytona R/T is expected to have a range of more than 317 miles, while the higher performance Charger Daytona Scat Pack can go 260 miles on all-electric power. Chargers will offer optional Level 2 wall-charging units or public charging credits through Free2move Charge, a system by Stellantis.
