Porsche Macan EV Arrives with Stunning Design and Zero Emissions

The new Porsche Macan EV, equipped with powertrains reaching up to 470 kW, showcases E-Performance across diverse terrains while maintaining a superior level of day-to-day functionality. Boasting sports-car-like performance metrics, it also features rapid charging capabilities of up to 270 kW and an impressive range of up to 613 km in WLTP.

A decade after its initial release, the Porsche Macan is embarking on its second model generation, now in an all-electric iteration. With its modern and timeless design, iconic Porsche performance, extensive range for long-distance travel, and exceptional practicality for daily use, both the new Macan 4 and the new Macan Turbo are designed to meet the diverse needs of Porsche customers opting for an SUV.

Porsche utilizes the latest generation of permanently-excited PSM electric motors on both the front and rear axles to ensure exceptional efficiency and optimal reproducibility of power output. The figures alone underscore the Macan’s top-tier E-Performance: When combined with Launch Control, the Macan 4 generates up to 300 kW of overboost power, while the Macan Turbo reaches an impressive 470 kW. The maximum torque for these models is 650 Nm and 1,130 Nm, respectively, ensuring outstanding driving performance. Accelerating from a standstill to 100 km/h takes the Macan 4 5.2 seconds, while the Macan Turbo accomplishes this feat in just 3.3 seconds. Both models achieve top speeds of 220 km/h and 260 km/h, respectively.

Introducing the New Premium Platform Electric featuring an 800-volt architecture

The electric motors derive their power from a lithium-ion battery positioned in the underbody, boasting a gross capacity of 100 kWh, with an active usage potential of up to 95 kWh. The High-Voltage (HV) battery plays a central role in the innovative Premium Platform Electric (PPE) with 800-volt architecture, making its debut in the new electric Macan.

The DC charging output reaches up to 270 kW, allowing the battery to be charged from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 21 minutes at a compatible fast-charging station. Utilizing a high-voltage switch within the battery at 400-volt charging stations enables efficient bank charging by effectively dividing the 800-volt battery into two segments, each with a rated voltage of 400 volts. This facilitates particularly effective charging, reaching up to 135 kW without the need for an additional HV booster. Additionally, AC charging at speeds of up to 11 kW is feasible using household wall boxes.

While driving, the electric motors have the capability to recuperate up to 240 kW of energy. Adding to the efficiency of the new Macan models is the Integrated Power Box (IPB), which not only saves weight and space but also enhances overall performance. This groundbreaking and space-efficient IPB integrates three key components: the on-board AC charger, the high-voltage heater, and the DC/DC converter. The combined WLTP range reaches up to 613 km in the Macan 4 and up to 591 km in the Macan Turbo.

Sporty proportions and coupé-like lines

Boasting sporty proportions and sleek, coupé-like lines, the new Macan EV models exude a dynamic and commanding presence, thanks to sharper dimensions and the infusion of Porsche Design DNA. Even at a standstill, the all-electric SUV, measuring 4,784 mm in length, 1,938 mm in width, and 1,622 mm in height, displays a dynamic allure with its shallow bonnet pitch and prominently defined wings. Equipped with staggered tire fitment on wheels of up to 22 inches, the new Macan emphasizes its dynamic stance.

Featuring an 86 mm longer wheelbase than its predecessor (2,893 mm), the vehicle maintains a balanced profile with short overhangs at both the front and rear. The headlights are distinctly divided into two sections: the upper light unit, with four-point daytime running lights, seamlessly integrated into the wings, accentuates the car’s width. Positioned slightly lower in the front end, the main headlight module includes optional matrix LED technology. The characteristic Porsche flyline harmonizes with the flat rear window, creating a cohesive design, complemented by frameless doors and distinctive side blades for a streamlined, sporty aesthetic. The rear end is characterized by pronounced shoulders, imparting a muscular appearance, and the Porsche logo is centrally positioned within the sculptural 3D light strip.

Active and passive aerodynamics for greater range

Enhancing range through a fusion of design DNA and aerodynamic optimization, Porsche introduces the new Macan EV with a focus on both active and passive aerodynamics. The Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA) system, featuring a combination of active and passive elements, contributes to the vehicle’s remarkable drag coefficient of 0.25. This places the new Macan among the most aerodynamically streamlined SUVs available, positively impacting both range and power consumption.

The PAA system encompasses various components, including an adaptive rear spoiler, active cooling flaps situated on the front air intakes, and flexible covers on the fully sealed underbody. Furthermore, air curtains positioned below the headlight module and the streamlined front end work to optimize airflow. Towards the rear, lateral tear-off edges and a louvred diffuser play a crucial role in ensuring aerodynamic efficiency.

Two luggage compartments and spacious interior space

Featuring two luggage compartments and an expanded interior space, the new Porsche Macan Electric stands out as a performance-driven SUV with a strong emphasis on everyday practicality, top-notch equipment, and spacious design. The electrification of the Macan has resulted in increased cargo capacity, reaching up to 540 litres behind the rear seat bench in cargo mode, depending on the model and equipment configuration.

Additionally, the inclusion of a ‘frunk,’ a second luggage compartment located under the bonnet, enhances storage options with a capacity of 84 litres. This represents a notable increase of 136 litres compared to the previous model. When the rear seat backrest is fully folded down, the rear luggage compartment’s capacity expands to a maximum of 1,348 litres. The new Macan further demonstrates its practicality with a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 kg, rounding off its versatile and highly functional features.

Based on the model and chosen equipment, the driver and front passenger now experience a lower seating position by up to 28 mm compared to previous configurations, while rear passengers enjoy a lowered position by up to 15 mm, accompanied by increased legroom. The interior maintains the unmistakable Porsche aesthetic, highlighted by the integrated black panel accentuating the width of the cockpit. The elevated design of the center console enhances the perception of a low and performance-oriented seating stance within the vehicle. Simultaneously, the spacious interior is illuminated by large windows, creating a light and airy atmosphere.

In addition to the contemporary digital user interfaces, the presence of select analogue control elements, such as those on the air vents and air conditioning controls, adds a tactile dimension to the experience. Thoughtful design includes an LED light strip integrated into the trim strip of the cockpit and doors, serving as both ambient lighting and a communication light. Depending on the context, it provides information or warnings, such as greetings, charging processes, or in coordination with driver assistance systems. The equipment options in the new Porsche Macan Electric offer a high level of customization to meet individual preferences.

Elevated Driver Experience: Advanced Computing Power and Connectivity

The new Porsche Macan EV comes equipped with a cutting-edge display and operating concept featuring up to three screens, including the 12.6-inch curved-design instrument cluster and the 10.9-inch central display. A notable addition is the optional 10.9-inch screen for the passenger, enabling them to access information, adjust infotainment settings, or stream video content while the vehicle is in motion. Another innovative feature in the Porsche Driver Experience is the introduction of a head-up display incorporating augmented reality technology. Virtual elements, such as navigation arrows, seamlessly integrate into the real world, appearing to the driver at a distance of 10 meters and matching the size of an 87-inch display.

The state-of-the-art infotainment system of the new Macan electric operates on the Android Automotive OS platform. The standard Porsche Communication Management (PCM) in this model sets a new standard in computing performance. The “Hey Porsche” voice assistant, for instance, swiftly suggests routes, including charging stops. The new Porsche App Centre allows passengers to access and directly install popular apps from third-party providers into the new Macan EV, enhancing connectivity and customization options.

First Macan featuring rear-axle steering and two-valve dampers

The development of the Macan EV by Porsche placed a strong emphasis on capturing the quintessential driving dynamics and distinctive steering feel characteristic of the Porsche brand. Jörg Kerner, the Product Line Vice President, highlights the new Macan’s genuine sports car sensation, attributing it to its particularly sporty seat position, low center of gravity, and impressive driving dynamics and steering precision.

Both the Macan 4 and the Macan Turbo come equipped with all-wheel drive. The two electric motors are precisely controlled in almost real-time by the power electronics. The electronically managed Porsche Traction Management (ePTM) operates approximately five times faster than conventional all-wheel drive systems, responding to slip within a mere 10 milliseconds. Furthermore, the distribution of all-wheel drive is influenced by the selected driving program. Enhancing traction, driving stability, and lateral dynamics of the Macan Turbo, the Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), an electronically controlled differential lock on the rear axle, plays a significant role.

Macan models equipped with air suspension, a standard feature on the Turbo variant, come with the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) electronic damping control. This option can also be paired with the steel-spring suspension if desired. Notably, PASM now incorporates dampers featuring two-valve technology, resulting in a broader spectrum between comfort and performance due to the expanded damper map. This enhances the discernible differences between various driving programs.

An innovative addition is the optional rear-axle steering in the Macan EV for the first time, offering a maximum steering angle of five degrees. This feature facilitates a compact turning circle of 11.1 meters in urban traffic and during maneuvers. Simultaneously, it contributes to exceptional driving stability at higher speeds, complemented by the consistent and precise front-axle steering characteristic of the Porsche brand.

Since 2014, Porsche has successfully delivered over 800,000 Macan units worldwide. This remarkable achievement continues with the all-electric successor, produced in an environmentally conscious, net carbon-neutral manner at the Porsche Plant Leipzig. The new models are set to be delivered to the first customers in the second half of the year, ensuring the continuation of this success story.
