Ford has announced the launch of the Edge L SUV in China, serving as the Edge Plus’ successor. The Ford Edge L boasts a 2+2+3 seating configuration and is noticeably different from its predecessor in terms of both its interior and exterior design.
Measuring an impressive 196.9 inches (5 m) long, 77.2 inches (1.9 m) wide, and 69.8 inches (1.7 m) tall, the Edge L is a considerably larger vehicle, equipped with 21-inch alloy wheels and a wheelbase of 116.1 inches (2.95 m).
The Ford Edge L features a striking front grille effect created by a wide LED strip connected to the daytime running lights. Additionally, the vehicle includes pop-out door handles and a distinct beltline that ascends sharply before the C-pillar and descends gradually after it. The transition from the C to the D pillars is particularly unique, with the C-pillar featuring an “L” logo.
The new Ford Edge L also boasts a trendy floating roof design, with the top half of the body finished in black, and the front light signature repeated at the rear with prominent “EDGE” lettering beneath the Blue Oval.
The interior of the Edge L features a spacious dashboard with a large screen display, including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 27-inch touchscreen. Other amenities include ambient lighting, a head-up display, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, a panoramic sunroof, reclining second-row captain’s chairs, and more than 20 advanced driver assistance systems.
The 2024 Ford Edge L is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine with 249 horsepower and 279 lb-ft (378 Nm) of torque. Alternatively, Ford offers a self-charging hybrid version, with a total output of 271 horsepower and nearly 300 lb-ft (405 Nm) of torque. Both models feature all-wheel drive and an automatic transmission. The hybrid variant can cover up to 738 miles (1,188 kilometers) when fully charged and with a full gas tank.
Although the Edge L has not yet been displayed at any auto shows in China, it is expected to make its debut at the 2023 Auto Shanghai in April, with the gasoline engine. The hybrid variant will follow in by July 2023.
