Toyota Kirloskar Motor has unveiled its hybrid mid-size SUV, called Urban Cruiser Hyryder in the Indian market. Bookings for the SUV have started at INR 25,000 across all Toyota dealerships in India. It is estimated that production of the upcoming Toyota midsize SUV will begin in August and an official launch will take place sometime in September 2022.
Known internally as ‘D22,’ the Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV is developed under a collaboration between Maruti Suzuki and Toyota. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV will be manufactured alongside the Suzuki version at Toyota’s Bidadi plant in Karnataka.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder’s exterior consists of split LED DRLs with a thin chrome strip, an air dam, and a muscular bonnet. It features 17-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, a hybrid badge on the front door, body cladding with skid plates, and wraparound LED taillamps.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV is equipped with Toyota i-Connect with 55+ features, smartwatch connectivity, a 9-inch SmartPlay cast infotainment system, voice control, remote A/C on and off, remote vehicle recognition, vehicle health and more. The interior gets a dual-tone finish on the dashboard, wireless charging and HUD. The SUV also comes with a panoramic sunroof.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder will be available with two powertrains – Neo Drive and a self-charging strong hybrid electric powertrain with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that makes 105 hp and 122 Nm, along with the motor’s 59 kW and 141 Nm. The combined power output will be 85 kW (114 hp). The Neo Drive engine gets an All-Wheel-Drive system along with an option of a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
As far as safety is concerned, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder consists of six airbags, Antilock Braking System with Electronic Brake Force, TPMS, ABS with EBD, Hill Hold Control, Hill Descent, Cruise control, Rear 3-point seatbelt, All Wheel Disc Brake, Front Seat PT/FL, and Vehicle Stability Control.
The Toyota midsize SUV will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, Mahindra XUV700 and Mahindra Scorpio-N in the Indian market.

The Hyryder SUV will be offered in 7 Monotone and 4 dual-tone exterior colours. Monotone colour options include Sporting Red, Cave Black, Enticing Silver, Gaming Grey, Speedy Blue, Cafe White and Midnight Black. Dual-tone colour options are Cafe White with Black roof, Enticing Silver with Black roof, Speedy Blue with Black roof and Sporting Red with Black roof.
2022 Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Price:
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder 2022 price in India is likely to start from Rs 10.5 lakh (ex-showroom) and will go all the way up to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
