2021 Volkswagen Taigo makes its debut in Europe

With the new compact crossover Taigo , Volkswagen is launching an SUV coupé on the European market for the first time.

Volkswagen Taigo’s design enhances individuality, emotion and luxury. Other features include LED headlamps, an all-digital cockpit and the latest generation of infotainment systems (MIB3). The SUV coupé measuring just under 4.26 meters sets high standards in its class.

Among Volkswagen’s model lineup in Europe, this new body shape is the first of its kind. Just like its Brazilian counterpart, the VW Nivus, the new Taigo – with its crossover body style and coupé silhouette – is perfectly suited for Volkswagen to win over new, predominantly young and young-at-heart buyers.

Volkswagen has added the Taigo to the portfolio of its compact Polo (hatchback) and T-Cross (SUV) models built on the MQB platform, adding a third chassis variant, which had previously been reserved solely for high-end models.

In addition to the new IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights, the Volkswagen Taigo also includes an illuminated radiator grill crossbar depending on the options you select.

Taigo’s design is characterized by strong proportions, with a silhouette similar to a coupé because of the pillar extending forward to a point. The VW Taigo is inspired by SUV coupés in higher vehicle classes, which makes it unique in its segment.

On the inside, the Taigo boasts an elaborately designed multifunctional steering wheel and modern control elements as standard. In addition to the online control unit (eSIM) and “App Connect Wireless” (depending on the configuration), the infotainment systems utilize the third generation of MIB3.

Streaming services, natural voice control, and cloud-based personalization, based on the Volkswagen ID, allow use of the latest MIB3.1 services, depending on the configuration.

In terms of driver assistance for enhancing comfort and safety, the new SUV coupé is comparable to Volkswagen models in higher segments. The Taigo comes standard with assistance systems such as the surroundings monitoring system “Front Assist” with city emergency braking, and the lane departure warning system “Lane Assist”. The “IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist” add-on provides semi-automated driving up to a system-determined top speed of 210 km/h.
