The Volkswagen Polo GTI’s strong TSI engine and sports chassis transform the best-selling small vehicle into a thrilling four-door sports car with semi-automated driving as an option for the first time in a Polo GTI. All passengers will enjoy even more comfort and safety thanks to a slew of new assistance systems.

There are three letters in the automobile world that have had a magical sound to them for nearly five decades: GTI. Volkswagen has ensured that this code is synonymous with great driving pleasure in the compact segment since the original GTI in 1976. Since 1998, the Polo has borne the acronym the GTI, the third model to do so after the Golf and the Scirocco. The current model continues the legendary GTI history while while setting new compact vehicle norms.

The technical basis for this is provided by Volkswagen’s Modular Transverse Toolkit (MQB). MQB represents technological advancement, strong body stiffness, exceptional low weight, and excellent crash properties across all model lines.

IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist, which makes its debut in a VW Polo GTI, allows for semi-automated driving. From 0 km/h to the Travel Assist control limit (210 km/h), the system can take over steering, braking, and acceleration of the Volkswagen Polo GTI.

IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist uses well-known systems like Adaptive Cruise Control to provide longitudinal direction (ACC). Lane Assist, which comes standard, helps with latitudinal guidance. The Travel Assist button on the revised, multifunctional leather sports steering wheel can be used to activate the system. When employing this technology, the driver’s hands must remain on the steering wheel, implying that the driver is always in control of the vehicle.

In the new Polo GTI, many new infotainment systems (the newest generation of MIB3.1), which are connected to numerous web services, ensure cutting-edge connectivity. We Connect (prepared for a limited time) and We Connect Plus online services can be used with an Online Connectivity Unit (OCU) with integrated eSIM (prepared for free use in Europe for one or three years).

Depending on the equipment line, features like natural voice control, access to streaming services, and cloud-based personalization utilising “Volkswagen ID” augment the latest MIB3.1 system. Apps like App-Connect Wireless for Apple CarPlay and Android AutoTM can now be integrated wirelessly.

Instruments and the infotainment system are organised on a visual axis, making them easy to see and control in any driving circumstance. The Digital Cockpit Pro stands out thanks to its greater pixel density, enhanced contrast ratio, and vibrant colours, as well as its sheer size of 10.25 inches (26 centimetres diagonally).

The engine is always at the core of a GTI. The 2017 Volkswagen Polo GTI, like its predecessors, is front-wheel drive. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DSG) is standard on the turbocharged direct petrol injector. Features like a dual injection system with combined direct and intake-manifold fuel injection, an engine control unit with four core processors, and an electronic valve-lift system on the inlet side are among the highlights of the turbo engine in the new Polo GTI, which is installed transversely at the front of the car.

Despite its great output, the engine is remarkably efficient, consuming only a little amount of fuel. This is facilitated by the new VW Polo GTI’s light weight when empty. As you’d expect from a true Volkswagen GTI, the new Polo GTI comes standard with a sports chassis that’s been designed specifically for the vehicle. It lowers the chassis by 15 millimetres, ensuring the GTI’s signature blend of driving dynamism, safe neutrality, and high levels of driving comfort.

Volkswagen Polo GTI now comes standard with the new IQ.Light – LED matrix headlights and as a distinguishing improvement to the daytime running light, it gets a new illuminated radiator grille bar.

The sporty new Polo serves as a stylistic link between Volkswagen’s fully electric ID. models and the new generation of successful models such as the Golf, Arteon, and Tiguan, all of which feature the striking LED light strip that is characteristic of new Volkswagens as an option or depending on the equipment line.

The newly designed LED rear lights with animated brake light and integrated dynamic indicators, which indicate a change of direction with flowing light movements, are the most dramatic aesthetic modification to the new Polo GTI’s rear.

The new GTI-specific bumper enhances the small sports car’s dominating and broad visual presence on the road. The Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS), which is housed in the side of the bumper and controlled by the main headlights, has been updated to provide a more focused lighting effect. It gives a very homogeneous illumination of the road and surroundings when used in conjunction with the IQ.Light – LED matrix headlights.

At the sharper front of the car, the distinctive red GTI emblem on the radiator grille, the honeycomb-shaped ventilation grilles, and the continuous red trim strip above the LED daytime running light strip maintain the signature GTI insignia. To the right and left, it flows into the IQ. Light – LED matrix headlights with red winglets.

Deep Black Pearl Effect, Smoke Grey Metallic, Kings Red Metallic, Pure White Uni, and Reef Blue Metallic are the five colours offered for the new Polo GTI. As an option, the last three colours can be coupled with a contrasting black roof (Roof Pack). The car comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels. Optional 18-inch alloy wheels are available for the Volkswagen Polo GTI.

The Titanium Black trim colour is used on the roof pillars and roof liner, which is typical of the GTI.

A GTI is also known for its red contrast stitching. It’s found on the standard multifunctional leather sports steering wheel, the gear lever trim, and the seat surfaces. With 300 watts and six speakers, the optional Beats sound system provides a spectacular acoustic experience. To save space, the amplifier is hidden beneath the floor in the flexible cargo section. The new VW Polo GTI has a baggage capacity of 351 litres.
