Morris Garages or MG Motor India has unveiled its first product for the Indian market – Hector. The SUV gets its name inspired by British Biplane from the 1930s and the Prince of Troy. The MG Hector will be officially launched in the month of June 2019.
The British automotive marque which is now owned by the Shanghai-based SAIC Motor claims that the MG Hector SUV is India’s first connected car (Hyundai also claims the same for its Venue SUV). It is also India’s first 48V hybrid SUV and comes with many segment first features as well.
Power for the MG Hector petrol model will come from a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine. This motor will produce 143 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque. The petrol engine will be paired with either a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed DCT.
Additionally, the Hector Hybrid variant will come with the petrol motor and the 6-speed manual transmission. The 48V hybrid system gets functions such as Engine Auto Start/Stop, Regenrative Braking and E-Boost.
The MG Hector diesel model will get an FCA-sourced 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel engine. This motor will produce 170 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque. It will be coupled to a 6-speed transmission.
The Hector SUV will be fully loaded in the top trim. It will get ESP + Traction Control, ABS+EBD, Rear Parking Sensors, Front Dual Airbags, Hill Hold Control, 3-Point Seatbelts, ISOFIX Child Seat Anchors and disc brakes on all 4 wheels as standard features available across all variants.
Some key features of the Hector include iSMART technology, a big 10.4 inch touchscreen display,7-inch colour MID display, Heater ORVMs, Front Parking Sensors, TPMS, 360-degree Camera, 6-airbags, Cruise Control, Push Start Stop button with smart entry, 6-way adjustable driver seat, 4-way co-driver adjustable seat, Flat rear floor, Panoramic Sunroof, Rain sensing wipers, auto headlamps and Mood lighting in 8 colours.
The Hector gets MG’s signature design cues which also includes the famous star-rider grille. The character lines are defined by geometric shapes and the exterior shape of the vehicle is said to be inspired by the Lockheed Martin F-35 fighter jet. The interiors of the Hector are said to be inspired by Dance forms. The built quality and the fit & finish of the cabin seem to be good and on par with the competition.
The SUV measures 4655 mm in length, 1835 mm in width and 1760 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2750 mm which is said to be the longest in the segment. The Hector has a ground clearance of 192 mm and a boot capacity of 587 litres.
