Tata Altroz unveiled at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show

In its 21st year at the 89th Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS), Tata Motors has fulfilled its promise by bringing to life, concepts showcased in 2018. The company has unveiled the Altroz, Altroz EV, Buzzard and Buzzard Sport along with the H2X Concept at the motor show.

The Altroz is the second product designed under IMPACT 2.0 Design language, first being the Tata Harrier. With the launch of the Altroz, Tata Motors will enter the premium hatchback segment in India, in mid-2019.

Tata Motors says that the new Tata Altroz aims at reinventing the urban car design with greater emphasis on bringing connectivity and everyday mobility together. It is an amalgamation of revolutionary design, advanced technology, class-leading connectivity and thrilling performance.

The Altroz was first showcased in the concept form at the 2018 Auto Expo as the Tata 45X Concept. It is designed and developed on the all-new Agile Light Flexible Advanced (ALFA) Architecture which is a futuristic, modular, versatile architecture depicting a radical new approach to design. It measures 3988 mm in length, 1754 mm in width and 1505 in height. It has a wheelbase of 2501 mm.

The lightweight, modular and flexible characteristics of the ALFA platform allows the manufacturing of multiple body styles with a choice of powertrains including gasoline, diesel or full electric to meet the constantly evolving aspirations of the customers.

This architecture also has the ability to evolve into a range of modern, exciting vehicles in a short development cycle. Flexible solutions in the Architecture also make it capable of handling connected/ hybrid car offerings in future.

The new Tata Altroz has an athletic and sporty silhouette. The sharp cut lines give the hatchback a very futuristic and ultra-modern look. The signature humanity line is finished in chrome, which is accentuated by dual slim headlamps. The sleek grille along with the piano black ORVMs and roof give the Altroz a stylish look.

The side profile features a unique arrowhead formation at the A-pillar with the front door flowing into the unique looking comet tail like swoosh element along the window line. The rear door handle is positioned behind the C-pillar, making it appear as a 2 door hatchback. It also gets 5 –spoke alloy wheels and the side indicator is placed on the front fender behind the wheel arch.

The rear, of the Altroz, gets a dual tone treatment where the top portion of the hatch is finished in black. The tail lamps are sleek and are darkened making them appear as a single part. The bumper has a very sharp design and gets a black plastic cladding at the bottom which gets reflectors fixed at the corners along with a rear fog lamp placed in the middle. The Altroz also gets a roof spoiler with a high mounted stop lamp.

The interior of the Tata Altroz gets a seamless cockpit-like theme. It gets an all-black look which lends it a very sporty yet premium feel. The trims around the ac vents are finished in gold colour, while some elements such as the area surrounding the gear shifter, door handles get a silver finish. A floating type 7-inch touchscreen sits in the centre of the dashboard above the ac vents.

While Tata Motors hasn’t revealed many details about the features and powertrains. The car will come with both diesel and petrol engines. The company will later launch an electric version as well. The petrol motor is an 1198 cc unit producing 75 kW @ 5500 rpm and 140 Nm @ 1750-4000 rpm. It will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.
