After launching the 1.5-litre K15 petrol engine in the new Maruti Ciaz and the all-new Ertiga, Maruti Suzuki further beefs up its engine portfolio with the introduction of a new 1.5-litre DDiS 225 Diesel engine. This marks the company’s full-fledged entry into the market with bigger engines of 1.5-litre capacity.
The 1.5-litre diesel engine has been developed in house by Maruti Suzuki. The company claims that it offers improved performance, best in class fuel efficiency, enhanced torque and power with refined NVH performance.
The new 1.5-litre DDiS 225 Diesel engine delivers a peak torque of 225Nm @ 1500-2500rpm and maximum power of 70kW @ 4000rpm. It comes with a high-efficiency turbocharger which generates higher low-end torque through optimization. The motor is mated to a newly designed 6-speed transmission.
The engine utilizes Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF) which along with the optimized compression ratio reduce engine fluctuations and contributes to better NVH performance. Use of light-weight aluminium casted cylinder head and block along with optimized engine calibration contributes to improved fuel efficiency.
With the addition of this new powerful engine, the new Ciaz will now be available with 1.5 litre capacity in both petrol (K15 with Next-Gen Smart Hybrid) and diesel (DDiS 225) powertrain options.
