Mahindra and Mahindra have once again entered into the premium SUV segment with the launch of the new Alturas G4 which is the rebadged version of the SsangYong Rexton G4. The company is not new to this segment. Mahindra was earlier retailing the previous version of the Rexton W with the SsangYong badge.

The Mahindra Alturas G4 is a big SUV and has good road presence. Mahindra’s flagship product for the Indian market measures 4,850 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,825 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,865 mm and a ground clearance of 244 mm.
Under the hood of the new Altura G4 sits a BSVI-compliant, 2.2-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine which makes a maximum power of 180.5 PS @ 4000 rpm and a peak torque of 420 Nm @ 1600 – 2600 rpm. This motor is coupled with a Mercedes-sourced 7-speed automatic transmission. Power is sent to the rear wheels in the base model, while the top-end variant features an all-wheel-drive system.
All four wheels get disc brakes and the SUV is fitted with 18-inch alloy wheels which are wrapped in 255/60 size tyres. Suspension duty is carried out by a double-wishbone with coil spring at the front and a five-link setup with coil springs at the rear.
The Alturas 2WD variant comes with Projector headlamps, LED Tail Lamps, 8-way power driver’s seat, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Dual Zone Fully Automatic Temperature Control, Dual front airbags, Auto up and anti-pinch only for front windows, Monochromatic display for the instrument cluster and Heated ORVMs With LED Side Indicators. It also gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and Black & Grey interiors along with a black centre console.
The top-end Alturas 4WD variant in addition to the above features comes with HID projector headlamps, LED fog lamps with cornering function, Electric Sunroof, 8-way power driver’s seat with memory function, Power tailgate, 9 airbags, Colour TFT-LCD display for the instrument cluster, and Auto up and down for both front and rear windows.
The SUV also comes with 360-degree surround camera, illuminated scuff plates and Auto tilt function for ORVMs. This model gets Dual tone interior in Tan and Black along with a brown centre console and quilted leather upholstery.

The premium SUV is available in 5 colour options – Napoli Black, Regal Blue, New Pearl White, Lakeside Brown and Drizzle Silver.
