Tata Motors has launched the much-awaited Tata Tiago JTP which is a sporty version of the Tiago hatchback. Along with it, the company has also launched the Tata Tigor JTP model.
The Tata Tiago JTP is not just made to look like it’s a sport version of the regular model but it does get genuine performance upgrades to make it drive like one too.
2018 Tata Tiago JTP Price:
The performance version of the Tiago is priced at INR 6,39,000 Lakh (ex-showroom Delhi)
2018 Tata Tiago JTP Engine and Transmission:
Unlike the regular Tiago, the Tiago JTP is powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine which also does duty on the Tata Nexon. This motor produces 114 PS @ 5,000 rpm and 150 Nm @ 1,800-4,500 rpm.
The engine is mated to 5-speed manual transmission just like the normal version but this gearbox has been tuned and gets different gear ratio and final drive ratio to offer better acceleration.
The car also gets Sport and City drive modes and the company claims that this hot hatch can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.95-seconds. The twin-barrel exhaust system of the car has been tuned to offer a sportier sound. The engine cover gets JTP branding along with a racetrack design as well.
2018 Tata Tiago JTP Suspension, Wheels and Brakes:
The new Tiago JTP gets specially tuned suspension dampers to make sure it is planted on the road or track even when cornering at high speeds. The ground clearance has been reduced by 4 mm, lowering the car to 166 mm compared to the 170 mm of the normal Tiago. The steering setup has also been returned to offer an engaging driving experience.
The 2018 Tiago JTP runs on 15-inch alloy wheels which are wrapped with 185/60 size tyres. These are much wider than the normal variant and are said to offer better grip as well.
Brakes are same as that on the regular models but the company claims due to the updated wheels and tyres and the tuned suspension, the braking distance has reduced.
2018 Tata Tiago JTP Exterior and Interior:
Tata Motors designers have worked to provide a distinct look to the Tiago JTP. Compared to the regular model, the performance-oriented one now gets a more sporty looking front end which consists of a newly designed bumper, new front grill with JTP badging, projector headlamps and a hood vent.
At the side, the hatchback is very similar to the normal variant except for the machined alloy wheels, side skirts and the fender vents with JTP badge. The car also gets ORVM, roof and rear roof spoiler finished in gloss black.
Moving to the rear, the biggest change that can be seen is the new bumper with a diffuser. The centre mounted rear fog lamp at the bottom and the twin barrel exhaust tips add to the sporty character of the hatch. There is a JTP badging at the rear as well.
Inside, the new Tiago JTP comes with an all-black interior with red accents on AC vents. The seats are wrapped in black fabric which gets contrasting stitches along with a red hexagonal pattern as seen on the front grills.
