2018 Mercedes-AMG G 63 launched in India; Priced at INR 2.19 Crore

Mercedes-Benz has launched the all-new Mercedes-AMG G 63 in India. The high-performance SUV arrives as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) in the country. The new G63 is said to have undergone the greatest change in its history and celebrated its world premiere at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.

The new Mercedes-AMG G 63 comes equipped with a 4-litre V8 biturbo engine which is capable of producing 585 hp and 850 Nm of torque. This engine also gets AMG Cylinder Management cylinder deactivation system, making it efficient. This motor is mated to the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission and has been tuned to achieve very short shift times.

The luxury SUV can accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds and reach a top speed of up to 220 km/h. The maximum speed can be increased to 240 km/h by opting for the AMG Driver‘s package. The SUV now comes with the AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive as standard.

The new G63 also gets AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension with adaptive adjustable damping as standard equipment. Also for the first time, Mercedes-Benz has added independent, double wishbone suspension for the front axle and a rigid axle with a five-link suspension at the rear.

The electromechanical speed-sensitive steering comes with a variable ratio to ensure precise and authentic feedback. DYNAMIC SELECT allows the driver of the new G 63 to select between 5 on-road modes (Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual) and 3 off-road modes (Sand, Trail and Rock) at the touch of a finger, which is another first in the history of the Mercedes-AMG G-Class.

In terms of look, the new AMG G 63 continues to retain its unmistakable silhouette. It features the muscular hood along with round headlamps, external door hinges and top mounted indicators.

The SUV also gets AMG-specific radiator grille and the AMG bumper with large side air inlets and trim in matt iridium silver. Further, it gets muscular protective strips with inserts in high-gloss black with a silver AMG emblem, exposed spare wheel on the rear door with a stainless steel cover and three-dimensional Mercedes star.

It also gets distinctive trim elements on the front and rear bumpers, “V8 BITURBO” lettering on the front wings and the Mercedes-AMG G 63 model badge on the rear door.

The headlamps, indicators and tail lights are in LED High-Performance technology as standard while MULTIBEAM LED headlamps with Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus are available as an option.

The interiors of the new Mercedes-AMG G 63 are completely revamped. Exterior design features such as the shape of the round headlamps can be seen in the side air vents and that of the indicators in the tweeters on the dashboard. The grab handle in front of the front passenger and the chrome-highlighted switches for the three differential locks are the hallmarks of the G 63 which are also included in the new model as well.

The new G63 comes with analogue tubes as dial instruments as standard. It can also be ordered with the optional Widescreen Cockpit with virtual instruments and a central display above the centre console.

The rear seats can now be folded down in a ratio of 40, 60 or 100 per cent. The driver seat includes Memory function while all seats get the heating function. Luxury head restraints are also available on the front. This ride comfort can optionally be boosted still further with the Active Multicontour Seat package.

The 2018 Mercedes-AMG G 63 also comes equipped with the new flat bottom AMG Performance steering wheel which is wrapped in Nappa leather and gets galvanised shift paddles. The DIRECT SELECT lever has been repositioned as a steering column stalk.

The luxury SUV is equipped with like 9 airbags, Active Brake Assist and Lane Keeping Assist system as standard. Customers can further opt for Adaptive Cruise Control and Blind Spot Monitoring System which optional.
