Tata Motors is all set to launch its next-generation SUV based on the Tata H5X Concept which was showcased at 2018 Auto Expo. The much awaited SUV has been christened as Tata Harrier and will be launched in the first quarter of 2019.
Tata Motors has chosen the name Harrier as fits perfectly with the characteristics of the SUV. As per the company, Harrier name has many meanings such as – A dominant beast imbued with endless stamina and strength; Gifted with the unwavering instinct; Effortlessly conquers every challenge thrown its way.
It has to be noted that the Harrier moniker is not new to the automobile industry. Toyota has been selling a midsized crossover SUV under the same name in many international markets. Would have been great if Tata Motors had given some extra thought and provided a unique name to the H5X Concept.
Tata Harrier will also be the first passenger vehicle from Tata Motors to use the new IMPACT 2.0 Design language. The 5 seater SUV is built using a monocoque structure on the new generation OMEGA (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced) architecture which has been developed in collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover. It is derived from the legendary Land Rover D8 architecture which has been adapted to suit the Indian conditions by the engineers at Tata Motors.
The Tata Harrier will feature an extraordinary exterior with thoughtfully and intelligently designed interiors. The SUV will be equipped with future-ready connectivity options and best in class infotainment system.
In terms of looks, the Tata Harrier is very similar to the Tata H5X Concept. It features the signature the brand’s signature Humanity Line at the front which is connected with sleek looking LED DRLs, underneath which sites the main headlamp unit.
At the side, the Slingshot line is connected to the wrap around LED tail lamps. The Tata Harrier features muscular wheel arches and gets a dual tone look with the roof painted in black. A chrome line runs around the top of the widow and ends at the quarter window giving a very sleek look and coupe-like look to the SUV.
At the rear, we can see the LED lights tail lamps split into two units which will be connected by a black trim with the Tata Motors logo placed in the centre. The bumper is likely to get a dual tone look and also get a faux skid plate.
The Tata Harrier is likely to be launched with both petrol and diesel engine options. The diesel motor is expected to be a 2.0-litre unit sourced from FCA that also powers the Jeep Compass. More technical specifications about the SUV will be revealed closer to the launch.
