Volvo Cars has launched its entry luxury SUV, the Volvo XC40 in India at a special introductory price of INR 39.9 Lakh. Only the XC40 R-Design variant is on sale in the country and will be available in limited numbers.
“The XC40 is our first offering in the entry-level SUV segment and with this, Volvo completes its range across all luxury SUV segments – Compact, Mid-size and Full-size,” said, Charles Frump, Managing Director, Volvo Car India.
“It has an edgy design and a host of segment-first intuitive technology that makes life less complicated. The launch of XC40 and our aggressive dealer expansion of one new dealer per month this year are the key success factors in achieving our ambition of doubling segment share by 2020,” further added Charles Frump.
The Volvo XC40 is based on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA). The XC40 R-Design trim is powered by a 2-litre, 4-Cylinder, Twin-Turbo D4 diesel engine which produces 190hp and 400Nm of peak Torque. The powertrain complies with stringent European and Indian emission norms. This motor is mated to an 8-Speed Geartronic transmission and Haldex AWD. It also comes with different drive modes – Eco, Comfort, Dynamic, Off-Road and Individual.
The new Volvo XC40 is an embodiment of modern Scandinavian design. The compact SUV features the brand’s signature Thor’s hammer in a different rendition and a unique tail-lamp cluster. The exterior of the XC40 in 2-tone colour makes it look edgy. Its exterior proportions give the XC40 a true SUV stance. The launch variant is available in Crystal White, Bursting Blue and Passion Red colours.
The interior of the XC40 R-Design comes with black leather and lava orange faux-wool tones that add to the trendiness of the cabin. It also features a 9-inch touchscreen which simplifies the user experience in the XC40. It also comes with a Harmon/Kardon 13-speakers 600W surround system. The dashboard has piano black inserts around the touchscreen with aluminium inserts on the front to provide a sporty feel to the interiors.
Other key features of the Volvo XC40 R-Design include Panoramic Sunroof, Wireless Charging for mobile phones, Android Auto & Apple CarPlay connectivity, 2-zone climate control, 12.3-inch instrumentation cluster, Rear and front park assist pilot, Diamond cut alloy wheels, Power tailgate and hands-free power tailgate opening and closing.
Volvo claims that the XC40 is the only car in its segment in India to have radar-based Active Safety features like City Safety with Steering Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Distance alert, On-coming lane Mitigation, Driver Alerts, Run-off-Road protection and Roll Stability Control. The protective safety cage and 7 airbags keep the occupants safe in an unlikely event of a collision.
