Ford has unveiled the 2018 Ford Figo hatchback and sedan (Ford Aspire). These models are made in India but are meant for the export markets such as South Africa. The cars are launched in two variants Ambiente and Trend.
The major changes seen on the exterior include a new front end look which compromises of a new hexagonal mesh grille design and a revised bumper which gets C-shape chrome inserts near the fog lamp housing.
At the rear, the bumpers are slight redesigned and get faux vents at the corners. Both hatchback and the sedan receive a black trim at the lower end of the bumper as well. The tail lamps also have been slightly tweaked and the car now runs on new 14-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the cabin remains similar to the current model. It gets new fabric inserts on the door panels and the seats. The images shown here are of the Trend variant and hence does not showcase the new SYNC3 touchscreen infotainment system which was expected to be offered on the facelifted models. It might be reserved for the top of the line Titanium variants which haven’t been launched in South Africa.
Powering the Figo twins in South Africa is the new three-cylinder, 1.5-litre TiVCT petrol engine which makes 88 kW and 150 Nm. This motor replaces the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder unit. This engine is mated to either a five-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission. The auto gearbox is exclusively available on the Trend variant of the hatchback.
The Ambiente variant features 14-inch steel wheels, Ford Audio unit with 4 speakers, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, smartphone dock, tilt adjustable steering, power windows at the front, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, device dock and immobiliser.
The Trend variants in addition to the features of the Ambiente model gets multi-spoke 14-inch alloys, power windows on all doors, remote central locking, front seatbelt reminder, defogger for the rear window, Anti-theft alarm, a gear-shift indicator for manual variants. A new White Gold colour is exclusively offered on the Trend models.
This variant also gets electrically adjustable outside rear view mirrors, body coloured exterior door handles and ORVMs, Chrome grille and front fog lamps. The Trend Automatic model is also equipped with hill launch assist.
