Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), had launched the new 2018 Hyundai Elite i20 at the Auto Expo this year. The car was missing an automatic variant at the time of launch but now the company has introduced it as well with a CVT.
The new Elite i20 CVT will be available in two variants – Magna Executive and the Asta. They have been priced at INR 7.04 Lakh and INR 8.16 Lakh respectively. As compared to the manual variants, the i20 automatic models are costlier by around INR 1 Lakh. The Elite i20 CVT variants are available on order only basis.
Power for the new Elite i20 automatic model comes from the 1.2L petrol engine that produces 83 PS of power and 114 Nm of torque. This motor is mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The pre-facelift i20 was also available as an automatic but was powered by a 1.4L petrol engine mated to 4-speed torque converter unit.
The change from the 1.4L engine to the 1.2L motor also allows Hyundai to price the i20 automatic competitively as now it qualifies for tax benefits under the small car category which requires a petrol vehicle to be under 4m and powered by an engine no bigger than 1200cc.
In terms of features, the Hyundai i20 automatic variants are similarly equipped as their manual counterparts. It will be competing head-on with the likes of the Maruti Baleno and Honda Jazz.
