Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe; Performance Meets Practicality

Mercedes-AMG has added another member to the AMG GT family. The company has unveiled the GT 4 Door Coupe at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe is the fourth addition and also the first four-door model to be part of the highly popular AMG GT series.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe comes in three specs – AMG GT 53, AMG GT 63 and AMG GT 63 S. The Mercedes-AMG GT 53 is equipped with a hybrid powertrain. It is powered by a 3.0-litre six-cylinder inline engine which produces 435 hp and 250 Nm of torque.

The engine is paired with an electric motor which gets its charge from the 48-volt onboard power supply. The car is fitted with AMG Speedshift TCT 9G transmission. It accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds and achieves a top speed of 285 km/h.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 gets its power from the 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine which churns out 585 hp and 800 Nm maximum torque. 0-100 km/h figure comes up in just 3.4 seconds, and the top speed is 310 km/h.

The more powerful Mercedes AMG GT 63 S produces 639 hp and 900 Nm of torque. The V8 motor comes coupled to an AMG Speedshift MCT 9G 9-speed transmission. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and does the maximum speed of 315 km/h.

All of the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe models are equipped with the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. The cars also comes with Drift Mode which turns the four-door sports car into purely rear-wheel drive. It also comes with active rear axle steering and the electromechanical speed-sensitive power steering.

The eight-cylinder models have a large-dimensioned brake system consisting of compound discs with 6-piston fixed callipers at the front and single-piston floating brake callipers at the rear. The S variant is characterised by yellow brake callipers, whilst the base variant of the eight-cylinder sports red brake callipers.

The six-cylinder model is also equipped with internally ventilated and perforated compound brake discs with brake callipers painted silver grey. As an option, a high-performance ceramic brake system with bronze-coloured 6-piston fixed callipers at the front and single-piston floating brake callipers at the rear can be ordered.

Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe carries familiar features of the AMG GT series models. It gets the signature Panamericana grille, slim MULTIBEAM LED headlamps, frameless side windows, sleek LED tail lights and extendable spoiler.

Customers can further personalise their Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe by opting for several exterior packages such as the Night Package, Chrome package, Carbon-Fibre Packages, Aerodynamics package and the V8 style package.

The AMG GT 53 and GT 63 variants of the four-door AMG GT Coupe sport standard-specification 19-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels painted vanadium silver. The AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+ wears 20-inch light-alloy wheels with five twin spokes painted tantalite grey with a high-sheen finish.

The interior of the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe is largely similar to the new generation Mercedes-Benz cars. It features exclusive AMG styling and equipment. At the front, it comes with sporty bucket seats while the rear can be ordered with either an asymmetrically folding rear bench seat or with two individual seats.

The four-door AMG GT also features two 12.3-inch screens that perform as the infotainment system, connectivity options and other functions of the car. It also gets colour display buttons, integrated into the distinctive and tailor-made trim element. The driver can select from 6 driving modes – Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, RACE, and Individual.

Other features include AMG TRACK PACE which is an additional function of the COMAND Online infotainment system, ENERGIZING comfort control and AMG RIDE CONTROL+ on the V8 model. The four-door AMG GT also boasts of all the connectivity and Intelligent Drive functions and options of the Mercedes-AMG S-Class including the partially automated driving with the DRIVE PILOT.
