The Ferrari 488 Pista has been officially revealed. The supercar will be showcased at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The 488 Pista is the successor to Ferrari’s V8-engined special series – the 360 Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia and 458 Speciale.
The name is ‘Pista’ which means Track in Italian is a direct homage to Ferrari’s unparalleled heritage in motorsports. The Ferrari 488 Pista has been evolved directly from the company’s involvement in the FIA World Endurance Championship.
The Ferrari 488 Pista offers track-like performance on and off the road, even when in the hands of non-professional drivers. This is thanks to the extensive weight saving solutions, along with engine, vehicle dynamics and aerodynamic developments all of which have been derived from Ferrari’s racing cars – the 488 GTE and the 488 Challenge.
When compared with the Ferrari 488 GTB, this new model is 90 kg lighter. It is also equipped with the most powerful V8 engine in Ferrari history. The 4.0-litre engine produces 530 kW (720 cv) at 8000 RPM and a max torque of 770 Nm at 3000 RPM.
The Ferrari 488 Pista can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 2.85 seconds while it can do 0 -200 km/h in 7.6 seconds. The sports car can reach a top speed of more than 340 km/h.
The Ferrari 488 Pista makes full use of the company’s motor-sports experience for maximum aerodynamic performance even on the road. The front gets F1-inspired S-Duct and the design of the front diffusers feature a ramp angle to create strong suction for increased downforce.
The underbody vortex generators have also been redesigned, and the rear diffuser incorporates double kink to increase the air extraction and downforce generation. The shape of the rear spoiler has also been optimised. The final result of all these interventions is an impressive 20% increase in downforce.
The vehicle dynamics of the 488 Pista have been designed to enhance driving pleasure and make the car’s full potential available to drivers of all levels. The car features Side-Slip Angle Control system version 6 (SSC 6.0) which incorporates E-Diff3, F1-Trac, the magnetorheological suspension (SCM) and, for the first time ever, the Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer (FDE). The car is also fitted with specially developed new tyres by Michelin.
The Ferrari 488 Pista also gets a special racing livery colour scheme which forms an integral part of the design of the car. Contrasting edging on the aerodynamic elements on the bumpers and flanks add structure to the design. It also comes with optional new 20-inch carbon-fibre wheel rims. Other carbon-fibre parts include the engine cover, bumpers and rear spoiler.
