The fourth generation of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class features the brand’s evolved design philosophy of Sensual Purity. It is the aerodynamic leader in its segment and for the first time, Mercedes-Benz offers a two-section AIRPANEL as an option.
The look of the new A-Class is inspired by the Mercedes-Benz A Sedan Concept. It features sleek MULTIBEAM LED Headlamps with torch-like DRLs and slim, two-section tail lights. The hatchback is visually extended thanks to the longer wheelbase.
The bonnet on the new A-Class also slopes down more than the previous model. The radiator grille with the Mercedes star now is broader at the bottom and features pins in a diamond look.
The rear end of the car also looks wider thanks to the broad shoulders and the new two-section rear bumper. The large wheel arches add to the sporty look of the hatch and now can be filled with wheels from 16 to 19 inches.
The progressive front design with a low bonnet, flat LED headlamps with chrome elements and torch-like daytime driving lamps ensures an emotionally appealing and alluring appearance. The striking radiator grille with Mercedes star, whose silhouette opens out towards the base as a reinterpretation of its predecessor, features pins in a diamond look and a central silver louvre to underline the sportiness of this model.
The interior of the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class has been completely redefined. The cabin is now more spacious. It provides more shoulder, elbow and headroom along with a bigger luggage compartment which is 29 litres more than in the preceding model.
The dashboard is divided into two three-dimensional, horizontal sections. These sections are visually separated from the main body of the dashboard by a trench and the top part appears to be floating.
Also for the first time, a cowl above the cockpit has been completely dispensed. The result is that the wing-shaped main body of the dashboard extends from one front door to the other seamlessly.
The widescreen display which is available in three versions is completely free-standing. Another highlight of the interior are the illuminated air vents which feature a turbine inspired look. The new Mercedes-Benz A-Class now comes 64 ambient lighting colours making five times more colours available than before.
Features such as seat heating, seat climate control and a Multicontour Seat package with massage function for the front seats which were available on the luxury models are now offered with the new A-Class as well.
The new A-Class is the first Mercedes-Benz model to feature the completely new multimedia system MBUX – Mercedes-Benz User Experience. This system has the ability to learn thanks to artificial intelligence. MBUX can be individualised and adapts to suit the user.
The touchscreen is part of the comprehensive MBUX touch-control concept. A head-up display is also available. One of the strengths of MBUX is the new LINGUATRONIC voice control function which is activated by the words “Hey Mercedes”. It obeys virtually every command, recognises and understands nearly all sentences from the fields of infotainment and vehicle operation.
The new A-Class now comes with the very latest driving assistance systems. Also for the first time, the A-Class is able to drive semi-autonomously in certain situations. With an improved camera and radar systems, the car can see up to 500 m ahead. It also uses map and navigation data for assistance functions.
The new Mercedes-Benz A-Class features Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Active Emergency Stop Assist, Active Lane Change Assist. The optional PRE-SAFE PLUS system can now recognise an imminent rear-end collision. It also comes with Active Brake Assist as standard. The new A-Class is also the first Mercedes-Benz model to have been developed at the new Technology Centre for Vehicle Safety (TFS).
