Mahindra has unveiled its global SUV offering at the Auto Expo 2018. The vehicle is basically a rebadged version of the fourth generation Ssangyong Rexton. The company has confirmed that when launched the SUV will have a new name and not use the Rexton branding.
Mahindra used to retail the earlier generation of the Rexton under the Ssangyong brand but since the Ssangyong badge has a low recall value in India, the company has decided to rebadge the Rexton as a Mahindra vehicle. There is a high possibility of the SUV being called as the Mahindra XUV700 as it will be the company’s flagship offering positioned higher than the XUV500.
In terms of look, the Rexton gets a new Mahindra signature grille with vertical slats in chrome and other Ssangyong badges have been replaced with that of Mahindra. Other than that it remains identical to the Ssangyong Rexton. Inside too there no changes and the only difference is the change of the badge to Mahindra’s on the steering wheel.
Powering the Mahindra Rexton or the XUV700 that we have been naming it, for now, will a 2.2-litre diesel engine that develops 178 bhp of power and 420 Nm of torque. This motor is coupled to a 7-speed automatic transmission and a 4WD system.
The 7 seater SUV will also feature 9 airbags, dual-zone automatic climate control, electric parking brake, electric sunroof and HID headlamps with LED DRLs. It will also get an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with inbuilt navigation, ventilated seats and premium Cognac Brown leather upholstery.
