Mahindra has showcased the Stinger concept at the Auto Expo 2018. Said to be India’s first convertible SUV, the Stinger is based on the Mahindra TUV300. As of now the company has no plans to put the Mahindra Stinger concept into production.
In terms of looks, the concept gets a new front end look which consists of sleek LED headlamps, C-shaped LED fog lamps along with a new glossy black grill and a silver protective cladding on the bumper.
The Mahindra Stinger Concept has been transformed into a 4-seater and two door convertible. Its look is further enhanced by the muscular looking fender flares and the pillar-less doors. It also gets new ORVMS with LED indicators and body cladding in glossy carbon fibre finish.
At the rear, we get to see roll over protection behind the back seats and a spare wheel which sticks out from the boot area. It also gets new massive LED tail lamps and C-shaped fog lamps in the bumper. There is “Stinger” and “TUV Stinger” badging at the side and on the rear fascia respectively. The concept also gets new side steps and massive 10-spoke alloy wheels.
Inside, Mahindra designers have given the convertible SUV a very futuristic cabin. It uses the dashboard from the Mahindra TUV300 but it is now equipped with several digital displays. The center console houses an iPad like tablet which acts as the infotainment system and also controls functions such as the air condition system.
Just ahead of the gear lever is another screen which allows the driver to choose between different driving modes such as Sport, Eco, Off Road and Auto. The instrument cluster too includes a digital display providing all the required information to the driver. The steering wheel is also new and looks very futuristic.
Under the hood of the Mahindra TUV Stinger lies a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine, which delivers 140 bhp and develops 320 Nm of peak torque.
