The fourth-generation Santa Fe made its debut at the Hyundai Motorstudio Goyang. The 5-seater Santa Fe Sport will now be called Hyundai Santa Fe while the current long wheelbase three-row, 7-seater model will be renamed as Santa Fe XL.
Hyundai will also provide an occasional-use third-row seat with one-touch folding second-row seats for easy entry into the third-row by children for the Santa Fe diesel model. The vehicles will go on sale in the U.S market in summer of 2018.
The new Hyundai Santa Fe SUV wear a bold look. If features the brand’s signature Cascading Grille and a Composite Light design which is made up of the sleek LED Daytime Running Lights positioned on top of the LED headlamps. The SUV gets has a powerful wide stance and an athletic look.
The dynamic character line of the new Santa Fe runs across the length starting from the headlights and ending at the taillights. The large daylight opening (DLO) gets a satin surround which gives it a premium look. The SUV also gets diamond-cut 19-inch wheels.
The design of the interior of the new Hyundai Santa Fe has a horizontal and roomy layout and is finished with premium quality materials. The instrument panel has a three-dimensional appearance. Stitching around the instrument panel and colour-contrasted seat piping ensures a high level of luxury within the cabin.
Interior cabin space and comfort has also been enhanced on the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe. The audio/visual/navigation system screen has been tilted and positioned to reduce glare. The window switches and grab handles have been moved forward for more elbow room. The door map pockets have been reduced in size for more legroom while the Cup holders in the center console have been repositioned for ease of use and the height and length of the center armrest has also been increased
The top of the range Santa Fe models will include the Hyundai’s latest AVN 5.0 navigation system which is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The high quality sound will be played from the 630-watt, 12-speaker system from Infinity which comes with an 11-channel amplifier and features Clari-Fi technology and QuantumLogic Surround Sound technology.
The base level trim gets a standard 7-inch user interface. The SUV will also come with Qi wireless charging pad for compatible Android devices, as well as Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone X. It also gets an 8.5-inch Heads-Up Display (HUD) which displays information such as speed, Smart Cruise Control status, navigation, Blind Spot Collision Warning, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, speed limit, Lane Departure Warning and audio system data.
The 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe will be available with a choice of three proven powertrains. There is the 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder GDI which produces around 185 hp, a more powerful turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine which develops about 232 hp and the 2.2-liter CRDi turbodiesel engine which generates around 200 horsepower at 3,000 rpm and 434 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm. All engines will be mated to a brand new eight-speed automatic transmission.
The new Santa Fe is also equipped with Hyundai’s HTRAC All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) system. The driver can select between Normal, Sport and Smart modes as per the requirement and road conditions. The suspension geometry of the new Santa Fe has been updated to achieve improved ride comfort, handling and stability.
The SUV also comes with a self-load-leveling suspension which provides the vehicle with a continuous ride height regardless of cargo or trailer tongue weight. It also features Hyundai’s Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist (RCCW) which use the Blind Spot Detection system’s radar sensors to warn the driver if vehicles approach from the side and apply the brakes automatically.
Also debuting with the new Santa Fe is Hyundai’s Rear Seat Occupant Alert system. This system monitors the rear seats using an ultrasonic sensor to detect the movements of children and pets. The system will initially remind the driver to check the rear seats when exiting the vehicle with a message on the center instrument cluster display. If the system detects movement in the rear seats after the driver has left the vehicle, the car will honk, flash the lights and send a Blue Link alert to the driver’s smartphone via Hyundai’s Blue Link connected car system.
The 2019 Santa Fe also gets Hyundai’s first Safe Exit Assist. This feature temporarily prevents doors from being opened when a motorcycle, bicycle or vehicle approaches from behind even when the doors are unlocked. If the system detects an approaching object rearward it sounds an alert for passengers, a warning pops up on the driver’s center cluster and the doors remained locked.
Hyundai Santa Fe Blue Link-equipped models will include three years of complimentary Blue Link services, with enhanced safety, diagnostic, remote and voice guidance services. Blue Link brings connectivity directly into the car with technologies like Remote Start with Climate Control, Remote Door Lock/Unlock, Car Finder, Enhanced Roadside Assistance and Stolen Vehicle Recovery.
