Tata Motors had introduced the IMPACT Design language almost two years ago. The Tata Tiago, Tigor, Nexon and Hexa were the products that followed the new design theme. Now the company is all set to enter the second phase of this exciting design with the IMPACT 2.0 philosophy in 2018 which also marks the 150th anniversary year of the Tata Group.
The IMPACT 2.0 design language is built on the IMPACT 1.0 philosophy. It is more of an evolution than a revolution. It will be a more contemporary expression of the now recognisable Tata Motors’ Design language.
Design elements such as the Humanity line, Slingshot line and the Diamond DLO from the IMPACT 1.0 theme will be carried over to the new design philosophy. The lines will now be sharper and modern. The designers have also worked on the exterior to offer strong proportions and segment-leading wheel sizes, thus providing the cars with a better road presence and stance.
The details on the IMPACT 2.0 design theme will further strengthen and will reflect India-Global Design inspiration. The body colours will ensure a striking appearance in every light condition.
The interior design of the new cars will be clean, clutter-free. It will also offer a blend of a great balance of design flourish and practicality. The interior cocoons the occupants in comfort, and ensures every function is within arms’ reach.
The designers have worked on providing high-quality materials with colour combinations that will offer a very premium and luxurious feel inside the cabin. The floating HMI screens will be segment leading while the user interface and graphics will be intuitive and clear.
Tata Motors has also teased images of the 5 concept vehicles ahead of their reveal at the Auto Expo 2018. These include 3 passenger vehicles and 2 commercial vehicles:
1. Tata X451 Premium Hatchback:
This will be Tata Motors’ entry into the premium hatchback segment in India which is currently being ruled by the likes of the Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz. This new hatchback could provide segment leading space along with advanced features thereby giving tough competition to its rivals.
2. Tata H5 / Q501 SUV:
The new SUV from Tata Motors is said to be built on the Land Rover Discovery platform. This will provide the Tata Q501 / H5 with the world-renowned off road and on road capability. It will also offer a very stylish and dominating exterior. This SUV could be designed as coupe something similar to what we saw on the NEXON.
3. Tata Tigor Sport:
Tata Motors had earlier announced their collaboration with Jayem Automotives to produce special performance vehicles. The Tata Tigor Sport could be the first products from this JV with more to be followed soon.
The Tigor Sport will get the engine tuned to produce higher power and torque figures. The brakes and suspension are also expected to get an upgrade to handle the increased performance. Looks wise the Tigor Sport will get a redesigned bumper and new lightweight alloy wheels. Inside the car could carry the same sporty theme and offer the sportier seats and trim elements.
4. New Tata Ace Pickup:
Tata Ace has been the company’s one of the bestselling products in the small commerical vehicle segment. Now it will also be evolved by adopting the new IMPACT 2.0 design theme. We can expect a better quality of paint and fit and finish thus giving it an edge over its competition.
5. New Tata Ultra Truck:
Tata will also revamp its trucks and implement the new design theme. The new Tata Ultra truck would be the first products in the medium to large commercial segments to get the new look. Expect great looking colours and contrasting trim elements which will further enhance the appearance and give a lead to Tata Motors amongst its competitors.
The IMPACT DESIGN 2.0 Philosophy is refreshed under the 3 ‘Ex’ and 3 ‘In’
The 3 EX’s of IMPACT DESIGN 2.0:
1.) Exciting Proportions:
The strong proportions of body to cabin will give the cars an incredible sense of dynamism
Segment-leading wheel sizes and strong fender volumes will create a purposeful stance and unmistakable road presence
2.) Expressive Surfaces
- The clean, uncluttered surfacing will give the cars a futuristic expression
- The grille blends into the lamps enhancing the width of the cars. These are underpinned by the instantly recognisable, and more 3-dimensional Humanity Line
- Dynamism and movement will be created through the slingshot line that will be highlighted by the Diamond shaped windows in side view
3.) Extra-ordinary Details
The exquisite attention to detail to the exterior details strengthen and reflect our India-Global Design. The new Tri-Arrow pattern now make their appearance on the cars.
3 IN’s of IMPACT DESIGN 2.0:
1.) Inviting Spaces
The interior design is clean and elegant but with an emotional twist, balancing the practical needs of the customer with an aesthetic playfulness that draws the eyes and invites further investigation.
2.) Intelligent Choices
Inspiring material choices and discerning colour combinations enhance the perception of tactile quality, reinforced by ingenious storage and accessory options, allowing the customer to cleverly configure and shape their own driving environment.
3.) In-Touch Interfaces
Occupants are cocooned in ergonomic comfort, with innovative and intuitive in-car technology strategically positioning screens and controls to create an effortless driving experience, securely connected to the outside world.
