Mercedes-Benz, India’s largest luxury car brand has achieved a historic milestone in the Indian automotive industry by being the first automobile brand in the country to launch the Bharat Stage VI compliant vehicles. The BS-VI petrol engine will be featured in the Mercedes-Maybach S 560 and the diesel engine in the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class to be launched later in 2018.
The Certificate of Compliance to the CMVR (Central Motor Vehicles Rule) for Mercedes-Benz India was presented by ARAI Director, Smt. Rashmi Urdhwareshe to Mr. Roland Folger, MD and CEO, in the presence of Shri Nitin Gadkari Minister of Road Transport Highways and Shipping and Water Resource, River Development, & Ganga Rejuvenation and Shri Abhay Damle Ji, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport Highways and other dignitaries.
Mercedes-Benz India fulfils its promise of launching the first BSVI vehicles 2 years ahead of the regulation. As per the BS-VI norms the NOx limit reduction is upto 68% and PM limit reduction is achieved at 82% in BS-VI as compared to that in BS-IV.
The BS-VI compliant S 350d is fitted with a new 6-cylinder diesel engine which is Made in India by Force Motors. This is the most powerful diesel car in the history of Mercedes-Benz. It comes with a state-of-art engine exhaust after-treatment technology which includes, EGR, DPF, SCR etc. These technological measures lead to reduce the emissions significantly and help meet the new emission regulations with huge margins.
The Mercedes-Benz S 350 d has undergone stringent emission test related to at ARAI, Pune and has been certified as Bharat Stage VI compliant. The engine has undergone Tail pipe emission test, Engine power test and On board diagnostic (OBD) test to comply with the new norms.

The new six-cylinder Diesel engine is designed to comply with future emissions legislation (RDE – Real Driving Emissions). The power output has increased noticeably to 285 PS as compared to the preceding model but still consumes up to 6% less fuel.
The engine includes various technologies such as stepped-bowl combustion process, two-stage turbocharging. Also for the first time, Mercedes-Benz has made use of CAMTRONIC variable valve-lift control system. The engine block is made from aluminium and has steel pistons. The cylinder walls get improved NANOSLIDE coating.
