New Royal Enfield 650cc Engine Revealed; Produces 47PS and 52 Nm

Royal Enfield has unveiled its all-new Parallel Twin engine at its UK Technology Centre in Bruntingthorpe Proving Grounds, Leicestershire. The new Royal Enfield 650cc engine will be initially offered on two all-new motorcycles.

Unlike the speculations and rumors that were floating around the internet of the new engine being a 750cc motor, this is actually a 647cc unit. The reason for offering this displacement, the company says is to make it more accessible. This will allow new riders to upgrade easily and provide a product for experienced riders who do not want something too powerful.

This new 650cc engine produces 47 PS and 52 Nm of torque. The engine is coupled with a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch. The motor has been engineered to be able to reach motorway speeds easily. The design of this engine casing has been inspired by the 1948 Royal Enfield 500 Twin motor.

A single-piece forged crank with 270 degree firing order was developed for the way the engine ‘feels’ when making its power. The slightly off-beat feel of a 270 degree crank engine makes it feel truly special and offers a broad spread of torque at the rider’s disposal throughout the rev range. The highly precise Bosch fuel injection system ensures smooth, accessible power that is available from the moment the throttle is opened.

The new Royal Enfield 650 Twin engine is notable not only for its character, but also for its sound. Developing the right tone and burble from its twin silencers was an important goal during the engine’s creation. Whether at idle or at full chat, during over-run or while winding on the power, the exhaust note just oozes individuality.
