Mercedes-Benz has produced what is probably the most gorgeous outcome from its design team till date – the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet. The two-seater concept model presented at the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, pays tribute to the glorious automotive haute couture of hand-finished, exclusive cabriolets.
The all-electric Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet measures 5700 mm in length, 2100 mm in width and 1340 mm in height. The concept car looks breath-taking with its extremely long bonnet, sweeping lines and the stretched design. A sharp feature line defines the upper body and runs from the radiator grille across the entire length of the car through to the rear.
The car is finished with Nautical Blue Metallic paintwork. Chrome trims which pass across the car enhance the luxury appeal of the two-seater cabriolet. The pinstriped suit inspired Mercedes-Maybach radiator grille with its fine, vertical struts accentuates the front end.
The extended, round rear end of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet reminds of a luxury yacht. The slender tail lights emphasise the width of the car. The sloping boot also incorporates vertical brake lights in the middle. Also included at the rear end is a diffuser with an aluminium frame and the air outlets behind the wheel arches.
The concept car runs on 24-inch light-alloy wheels. The centre lock of the wheels are painted in rose gold and reflects the colour shade used on all electric vehicle studies from Mercedes-Benz. The custom-made fabric top with interwoven rose gold threads has been perfectly coordinated with the look of the vehicle.
Inside the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet is finished with crystal white high-quality Nappa leather and rose gold colour on the trim elements. The cabin has been designed to offer a 360-degree open-air luxury lounge feel. The generous, flowing design idiom brings exterior and interior together in a holistic design.
The leather of this luxury cabriolet is put into folds in a diamond pattern and secured to the frame with buttons. Each individual button of the quilting is backlit in blue and depicts an elegant Mercedes star. The open-pore wood floor with inlaid aluminium underscores the lounge sensation and the relationship to yachting.
The display strip links doors, dashboard and the rear area. All display components are integrated into the continuous glass trim part. The instrument cluster consists of classic round dials with digital display and real needles.
Three air vents placed below the wing appear to be floating aeroplane engines. Another highlight of the interior is the floating, transparent centre tunnel that visualises the drive system’s electrical energy flow for the passengers by means of blue fibre optics.
The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet has been engineered as an electric car. It features all-wheel drive thanks to its four compact permanent magnet synchronous electric motors. The flat battery has been placed in the underbody of the car.
The powertrain has an output of 550 kW (750 hp) which allows the luxury cabriolet to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in under four seconds. The top speed is electronically governed at 250 km/h. The car has a range of over 500 kilometres according to the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) or over 200 miles according to United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA).
It also features a quick-charge function which allows a charging capacity of up to 350 kW. The car can be charged to achieve an additional range of around 100 kilometres in just 5 minutes.
