The BMW Group unveiled the BMW Concept Z4 at the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The BMW Z4 Concept car boasts of a dynamic silhouette and an emotionally appealing use of forms. The BMW Concept Z4 in an all-out driving machine. Stripping the car back to the bare essentials allows the driver to experience all the ingredients of motoring pleasure with supreme directness. This is total freedom on four wheels,” said Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design.

The BMW Z4 Concept utilizes the new BMW design language which makes use of only a few precise lines that form clear surfaces. The Energetic Orange Frozen exterior paint finish shows the contrasts of light and shade in the surfacing and produces a strikingly contemporary and emotionally engaging impression.

The BMW Concept Z4 adopts proportions of a classical roadster such as a low-slung and stretched silhouette with a long wheelbase and a tight rear end. The short bonnet and crisp overhangs of the roadster ensure that the driver sits close to the centre of the car than in previous BMW roadsters.

The BMW Z4 Concept car has a sculpted shark nose at the front along with the low-set, wide kidney grille which now in place of the traditional bars sports an elaborately designed mesh setup which is reminiscent of early BMW roadsters such as the BMW 328 Mille Miglia.

Also, something refreshing that can be observed is the layout of the headlamps which is now a vertical interpretation of the classical four-eyed headlight look. The look of the front apron is extremely athletic and consist of three large air intakes. The central carbon fibre insert is inspired by BMW’s association with motorsport.

At the side of the BMW Z4 Concept car, we see the surface appears to be shaped by the flow of air as it exits the Air Breathers. The form of the car appears to be rising towards the rear which gives the roadster a very dynamic look. The muscular wheel arches give the car a highly aggressive poise. The low door sills with their distinctive crease make the car appear lower and closer to the road. The 20-inch alloy wheels in a bicolour double-spoke design complement the sporty look of the roadster.

The rear of the BMW Z4 Concept car is designed to appear very low and wide. It features slim, L-shaped rear lights and a prominent spoiler integrated into the boot lid. The large vents in the rear bumper give the car a truly sculptural look. In the middle sits a carbon fibre diffuser which is surrounded by trapezoidal exhaust tips.

The interior of the BMW Concept Z4 has been shaped around the driver and sports a minimalistic look. It adopts mostly the colour of the car body which creates a visual link between the interior and exterior of this concept car. A classy chrome strip running along the length acts as a separator.

The seat and door trim on the driver’s side along with the instrument panel and centre stack are finished in a shade of black whereas the rest of the car is completed in the orange shade similar to the Energetic Orange Frozen finish. This creates a pure-of-purpose driving environment what BMW designers call as “cone of vision” which wraps around the driver like a capsule and provides a very sporty sensation.

The instrument cluster and central information display form a high-quality cluster of screens that are integrated into the driver’s cockpit and have been placed such that they appear to be a single cohesive unit. While the screens display all of the required information which the driver can choose via the touch command, the Head-Up Display presents the key driving information within the driver’s direct field of view.
