Mercedes-Benz India, the country’s largest luxury car maker has further strengthened its SUV segment with the launch of its luxurious compact SUV, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLA. The new GLA was launched by Michael Jopp – Vice-President, Sales & Marketing, Mercedes-Benz India in Mumbai.
The new GLA is targeted at a young, successful and dynamic customer base. The compact SUV is now packed with a host of new features and looks much more powerful than the outgoing model.
The refreshed Mercedes-Benz GLA is available in three engine variants – GLA 200, GLA 200 d and GLA 220 d 4 MATIC. All engines are equipped with a 7G Dual Clutch Transmission which ensures rapid gear shifts.

The GLA 200 is powered by a 1991 cc petrol engine that develops 183 hp (135 kW) at 5000 rpm and 300 Nm of torque at 3600 – 4400 rpm. The GLA with this engine can reach zero to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds and attain a top speed of 225 km/h.
The GLA 200 d is powered by 2143 cc diesel engine that produces 136 hp (100 kW) at 3600 – 4400 rpm and a torque of 300 Nm at 1600 – 3000 rpm. It can reach a top speed of 205 km/h and accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 9.9 seconds.
The GLA 220 d 4MATIC gets its power from a 2143 cc diesel motor that generates 170 hp (125 kW) at 3400 – 4000 rpm and 350 Nm of torque at 1400 – 3400 rpm. The GLA with this engine can reach a top speed of 218 km/h and do zero to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds.

Some of the key features of the new 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLA include LED High-Performance headlamps with fiber optics, tail lights with a crystal look and innovative reflector technology, 18-inch 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels, Panoramic sliding sunroof, Twin-pipe exhaust system with chrome-plated tailpipe trim elements integrated into the bumper. The new GLA also gets an Urban Package which brings out the sportiness of the vehicle with some high-quality highlights and chrome elements.
The new GLA also features an Instrument cluster with 11.4 cm central colour multifunction display and gets pointers in metallic silver, red needles and ECO display, Ambient lighting in 12 different colours with 5 dimming levels, brushed stainless steel door sill with illuminated “Mercedes-Benz” lettering, ARTICO upholstery, Electrically adjustable front seats with Memory function and Smartphone Integration package with Apple Carplay and Google Android Auto.
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLA is in line with Mercedes-Benz’s tradition of making the safest cars. The compact SUV has achieved the maximum 5 stars in Euro NCAP’s safety ratings. It offers 7 airbags along with various Driver Assistance Systems, such as Hill start assist and Hold function, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Acceleration skid control (ASR), Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) and Brake Assist System (BAS).
The new GLA is offered in four exterior colour options – Cirrus White, Polar Silver Metallic, Mountain Grey and a new Canyon Beige shade.
