Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading passenger car maker has showcased the all-new 2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire. Yes, it is no longer called the Swift Dzire. The company has dropped the Swift name as they feel Dzire itself is sufficient as a brand.
The new Dzire is based on the latest 3rd generation Suzuki Swift that utilises the new generation HEARTECT platform which is also used by the Baleno. This new platform is lightweight and rigid and Suzuki claims it aids in getting better fuel efficiency. Unlike the previous models, this time the sub-4m compact sedan has a distinct identity and looks more premium and upmarket. It draws inspiration from Suzuki’s Liquid Flow design language which we saw on the Baleno.
The new 2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire features a segment first LED headlamps with integrated DRLs, a wide bold grill with chrome bezel and horizontal slats, 15-inch machine cut alloy wheels, LED combination tail lamps. It also gets a good amount of chrome touches across the body.
The new Dzire sports a dual-tone interior in beige and black with faux wood trims. This gives the car a premium feel and makes it appear spacious. Again here the designers have worked to differentiate it from the new Swift while the hatchback gets circular AC vents on the centre console, the sedan has them in a hexagonal shape. Most of the switches and a few other parts are shared with the existing Maruti cars but we do get to see a new flat bottom steering wheel which again gets the faux wooden treatment.
The 2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire also get rear air vents for the first time and comes equipped with an automatic climate control unit. It also gets the 7-inch Suzuki Smartplay infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirrorlink connectivity. The instrument cluster has also been revised and we can see a bigger MID screen sitting between the dials. Seats have also been redesigned for better comfort and ergonomics.
The 2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire measure 3995 mm in length, 1735 mm in width and 1515 mm in height. The new Dzire sits a bit lower at 163 mm giving it a nice stance. Compared to the old model it is now 40 mm wider and offers 20 mm more front shoulder room and 30 mm extra rear shoulder room. The boot capacity has also increased to 376 litres from the previous 316 litres.
Safety wise Maruti has equipped the new Dzire with dual front airbags and ABS as standard. The new platform it is based on, is also claimed to be safer and has been engineered to comply with new frontal offset impact, side and pedestrian safety regulations that will soon be applicable in India. ISOFIX points for mounting child seats are also present.
Other features of the new 2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire include Remote Keyless Entry, Engine Push Start/Stop, Steering wheel mounted audio & phone control, Height adjustable driver seat, rear seat center armrest, reverse parking sensors, Internally adjustable and Electrically Foldable ORVMs with side turn indicator, fog lamps, rear chrome garnish and Rear window defogger
Powering the 2017 Dzire will be the trusted 1.2L K-series petrol engine and the 1.3L DDiS turbo diesel motor. Both the engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox but will also be offered with the option of automated manual transmission (AMT) or Auto Gear Shift (AGS) as Maruti calls it.
The new Maruti Dzire will officially launch on 16th May 2017 and will come in four variants for each of the petrol (LXi, VXi, ZXi and ZXi+) and diesel engines (LDi, VDi, ZDi and ZDi+). The new Dzire will be offered in six colours – Oxford Blue, Gallant Red, Sherwood Brown, Silky Silver, Arctic White and Magma Gray.
The new 2017 Maruti Suzuki Dzire will be competing against the likes of the Tata Tigor, Hyundai Xcent, Ford Aspire, Volkswagen Ameo and the Honda Amaze. The Dzire could very well divert some of the prospective customers of the Maruti Baleno towards it with its new design and features. We can surely expect the waiting periods to extend for months soon after the launch and the Dzire has all the right ingredients to make it as the Maruti’s next best-seller model.
