Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL), the country’s second largest car manufacturer and the largest passenger car exporter has launched the 2017 Hyundai Xcent for India and global markets. The all new Xcent features a new exterior design with an addition of advanced Hi-Tech features for the evolving Indian customers.
After the launch of the 2017 Hyundai Grand i10, it was expected that the company will also update the compact sedan based on it. However, unlike the last model, Hyundai has reworked the exterior to give the Xcent a distinct look. The design seems to be inspired by the Hyundai Genesis to some extent.
Upfront the all-new Xcent sports the striking Cascade Design Grille with horizontal slats. The new bumper gives the car a wider appearance. It incorporates Wheel Air Curtains for better aerodynamic stability and trapezoidal fog lamps along with hockey shaped LED DRLs.
The rear of the 2017 Hyundai Xcent has also received some major changes compared to the older model. It now gets two piece wrap around tail lamps and chrome garnish on the tailgate which lend the compact sedan a premium look. Dual-tone bumper helps break up the visual volume and incorporate the reflectors at the ends. The car also features a Shark Fin type antenna, Chrome door handles, ORVMs with LED indicator, Sleek Waistline Moulding, Two-Tone Sporty Diamond Cut Alloys and Stylish Headlamps
Not much has changed inside the car from the previous model, it still offers the class leading quality fit and finish along with spacious and comfortable interiors. The all-new Xcent offers the first-in-segment 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirror Link smartphone connectivity. This enables the user to seamlessly connect their Smartphone with the infotainment system and utilise the screen to interact with the mobile device apps. A dedicated Voice Recognition button on the multi-functional steering wheel further adds to the convenience.
Some of the new Xcent’s key features include Radio with DRM Compatibility, Smart Phone Holder with charging port, Steering mounted Controls, Floor console storage, Cooled Glove Box, Rear Power Outlet, Seat storage pockets, Adjustable Rear Seat Head Rest, Rear seat centre armrest with cup holder, Driver Seat Height Adjustment, Rear defogger, Tilt Steering, Smart key with push button start, Rear Parking Camera and sensors, Spacious Boot with 407 litres capacity, Leather-wrapped Steering Wheel and Fully Automatic Temperature Control along with Rear AC vents.
The 2017 Hyundai Xcent gets the new bigger and powerful 1.2L U2 Diesel engine which produces a power of 75 PS @ 4000 rpm and a torque of 19.4 KGM @ 1750- 2250 rpm. It also continues to be powered by the proven 1.2L Kappa Dual VTVT petrol engine that generates a power of 83 PS @ 6000 RPM and torque of 11.6 KGM @ 4000 rpm. Both engines get a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. A 4-speed Automatic Transmission is also available as an option with the petrol engine in the ‘S’ variant only.
To improve the fuel efficiency, Hyundai has equipped the Xcent with Alternator Management System and has provided Wheel Air Curtains to ensure there is minimum air turbulence around the wheel area resulting in lower Cd (Coefficient of Drag), low NVH, increased fuel efficiency and stability of the car at high speed.
Safety wise, Hyundai has equipped the new Xcent with Reinforced Body Structure, Dual Airbags as standard, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Central Door Lock and Impact sensing Auto Door unlock.
The all-new Xcent is available in 6 variants and comes in 5 colours – Marine Blue, Polar White, Wine Red, Star Dust and Sleek Silver. Hyundai is also offering a 2 years unlimited kilometres warranty and claims to have the lowest maintenance cost in the segment.
