Tata TIGOR; India’s first StyleBack Teased

Tata Tigor is now the official name of the Tata Kite 5 concept car which was showcased at the Auto Expo 2016. Targeted at young, talented and confident individuals, Tigor follows the IMPACT design language we have seen on the new offerings from the Tata Motors.

Tata Tigor Design Sketch

Tata Tigor will be a sub 4 meter sedan based on the Tata Tiago hatchback. Folks at Tata Motors like to call it as India’s 1st Styleback, a new term coined for it’s sweeping silhouette. The new look will bring in some much needed refreshment in a segment that is full of boxy cars. This radical styling has allowed Tata to create a segment leading 420 litres of boot space.

Announcing the name Tata TIGOR, Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors said, “After HEXA, we are speeding towards our next market introduction, the Tata TIGOR which opens a new category of style and attitude in this segment. The break-free design dynamics of Tata TIGOR makes it India’s 1st ‘Styleback’. We will announce its commercial launch soon and are excited to see the IMPACT of the ‘Styleback’ on our customers“.

The production version will be identical to the Kite 5 concept. It will feature blacked out projector headlamps and LED wrap around tail lights. A strong slingshot line will move from the front fenders towards the rear. The unique looking rear will also feature a roof spoiler with brake light that will illuminate the entire width of the rear windshield.

The styleback will use the same powertrain as the Tiago which will be the 1.2 litre, 3 cylinder Revotron petrol engine that produces 85 PS and 114 Nm of torque and the 1.05 litre 3 cylinder Revotorq diesel engine which churns out 70 PS of power and 140 Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual transmission will be standard while a 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT) is on the cards as well.

Inside the car will be similar to the Tiago and will feature ConnectNext infotainment system by Harman with Juke-Car app. We can expect Tata to retain the customization option available on the hatchback. The launch is expected to be somewhere around March 2017.
